Today was holding a bottle of the new Twin Power 5w-30 extra life oil. The dealer just got a shipment in the past few weeks. They have this new stuff in their bulk tanks as well they said.

Why are people oil confused? An engine can run anything from 0w10 to 20w50 just fine for 10,000s of miles assuming you aren't at the extremes of the temperature ranges.
The custom oil blends aren't about max protection. They are about hitting a combination of targets for protection, fuel economy, emissions, and longevity - and doing that in EVERY environment. An approved oil is a compromise oil. You can achieve better protection with another oil, better fuel economy with a lower viscosity blend, better longevity with another....etc. BMW's choice is simply a good, solid, known choice. But it's not like running the initial 5w30 wasn't PREVIOUSLY approved for all the same things. P.s. I'm going to take photos of an oil change DIY for the board. I know it's simply, but always a good place to start. I just picked up a oil change kit. |

Come on joe, from a basic persons perspective their branding and recommendations have been confusing for a long time from tws days where online some thought it said 0w40 was ok and other couldn't verify. Then now a bmw m oil labeled "m twin power turbo" 0w40 yet it's not for the s55 or s63? So what is point in having an m specific turbo oil if none of the current m cars use it?
I'm talking with bmw and not for someone educated enough to make a choice to use another oil all together |

Still using 5w-30 long life. Headed for intermediate oil change soon and will see if there are any changes for the F8x.
