how far do alarm reach.

Does anyone else have this issue with the stock alarm system and door lock and unlock buttons. Unlike most other systems i can unlock or lock the doors to my car from the inside of my house, or across a parking lot. With this car i need to be within 20-30 ft it seems like. How could they have that option for panic mode on the alarm if you have to be so close to activate it. Maybe its just my car though anyone else feel like you have to be very close to lock and unlock your car....or set the alarm.
