ClearPlex? Windsheild Protection
Has anyone here gotten or considered ClearPlex? Its like 3M but specifically designed for your windshield protection.
http://www.clearplex.com I am thinking about it, as the HUD windshield I think is a pretty expensive replacement, not to mention the factory seal is never quite the same? |

I actually had this installed yesterday and with my luck , got hit with a huge rock on the way home. It has a scuff now but I haven't tried to mess with it much, or use their cleaning solution. I think the rock woulda done much more damage without. I'll report back after a few miles

Unbelievable. What will they think of next..!
I don't know how this would hold up in winter, with scraping off of ice and snow. But It looks like a good investment otherwise. M |

I have it. It cost me $250 installed and is great insurance to prevent windshield damage. From inside looking out you can't tell it's installed. From outside looking in you can tell there is a film installed although I haven't had really warm weather to park the car in so that perhaps any residual installation fluid can evaporate. Certainly I would prefer to have it installed in warm weather whenever possible.

I have heard that scraping can scratch the finish quite easily, even something as simple as running the wipers when its dry can scratch it.
I will only be rocking my car in summer mostly (including all of fall and as early as I can get it out without winters. However I am not sure if I want to go with the protection or not. Being in Alberta with a serious winter, we do have quite a few rocks kicking around and they can do some damage sometimes. |

I don't believe there's a difference between the HUD windshield and the non-HUD windshield; HUD is simply an image reflected onto the windshield via a screen behind your dash (you can see if it you look down on the driver's side).

I changed my insurance to a $50 comprehensive deductible to cover windshield replacement. It upped my 6 month rate $50, but on the bright side all comprehensive claims have the lowered deductible.

I just dropped off our SQ5 to get clearplex installed after talking to many happy folks who had them on their cars.
On a BMW it should help prevent pitting significantly. The place I am getting it done provides loaners and their loaner had clearplex installed. You cant even tell it is there. IMO it is no different than a clearbra which is designed for windshields. Some people will like them some wont. All of my cars get a full clearbra installed right after delivery and going forward, clearplex will be part of that package.
