Bird poop damage
So unfortunately my workplace doesn't provide covered parking. Yesterday I came to my car and discovered a nice big dark bird dropping in the middle of my hood. I washed it off but the damage had been done in only a few hours. I now have a silver dollar sized etching in my clear coat.
Does anyone have any ideas for removing the etching? |

1) don't scrub the area and don't attempt an emergency clean with a paper towel.
2) even though it happened while working a quick detailer and micro-fiber towel are nice to have in trunk. 3)wash area with car wash soap and quality towel/ or cloth/ or non silicone sponge. The products I suggest are isopropyl alcohol, polish and wax / plus applicators and towels. Trick is use the products-let product work don't press and use the friction of the applicator. So wash and dry then use wax or polish or isopropyl, use all three or any combo end with polish then wax. |

find that bird! i have my car vinyl wrapped and some bird must of gone out for watermelon or something super red and the thing took a dump right on my hood too. I cleaned it pretty quick but that didn't seem to help either (it put a small stain on my hood). This stuff sucks but its just part of life. hope youre able to fix it.

Some times, polish or isopropyl will remove droppings if not then abrasive car polish/compound style products may work. Always try least aggressive products first and clay certainly is not agressive. |

Same thing happened to me ther other day, my car was covered. Luckily I keep 3-4 microfiber towels in my trunk. During my lunch break I went and bought a bottle of water and carefully cleaned it all up
I also polish my car every 3-4 months and use a detail spray after washing, this was able to protect the paint so luckily it didn't etch |

Liquid wax in a spray bottle that is wiped away immediately. Has a few purposes. It is specialized to aid in wiping off and add gloss - I think some even add UV protection.
But if your out and about and get acidic bird droppings on paint a saturation of quick detailer and a soft towel can lift and wipe away carefully the contaminate without scratching paint. Ideally a spray bottle of water first to dislodge the droppings or saturate and liquify then the detailer - is a great way to clean the poop up. |

Thanks - appreciate all the answers to my newb questions!
I guess the next one would be - are there physical stores in SoCal with a good selection of these products or do most people mail order everything? |
