belt snapped 3 times in a week

posted in my regional forums but looking for input from everyone. how common is this issue on n54 motors? I plan to go to a service advisor but doubt they can help me (08 335 123k miles)

any advice? I know it's a subframe issue rubbing on belt. just need to know my options.

replace the mounts. But the "real" fix is to replace your subframe with an updated one. My friend had that done... $$$$

Motor mounts, new sub frame or cut a notch out of the sub frame (not recommended).

Does anyone have pics comparing "old" and "new" subframes? I've yet to see evidence that a newer version exists (no superseded part numbers, etc.)

For liability reasons I can't recommend it but I'd probably do the same, at least temporarily.

Are the motor mounts similar to the transmission mounts?

Is this a labor intensive job?

Previous owner of mine had it done. Receipt I have (from a BMW dealer) was $2600.

I know I wouldn't have paid that to have it fixed and would have done it myself.

As for the OP, I'd start with motor mounts and if that doesn't fix it, pull the subframe and grind down on that area for clearance.

Thanks everyone. This has been bugging me a bit now. Actually fix my cars CEL problem and once engine runs fine all the torque causes it to rub now. Great.

My motor mounts were noticeably worn at 65k, check your thermostat connector as well for damage, that usually gets damaged before kicking the belt...

Have you replaced the pulleys? Most people who have had your issue noticed damaged pulleys.
