1200 mile- oil change?
I brought my car in for the 1200 miles service and was informed that the service is just an inspection, and fluid top off.
Reading threads in the forum many people mention an oil change. Which is it supposed to be?

Actually, they don't change the manual fluid anymore not like the previous generation. My fault. Last edited by rr006rbc; 03-19-2015 at 06:49 PM.. |

I'm sorry guys...I just can't!!!Are you serious? Did you take the time to read the window sticker? Better yet the manual? Or the thousand other posts in this forum in the mantainence section???
Go there and read and let us know what you find and if you still have questions. |

http://f80.bimmerpost.com/forums/sho....php?t=1007985 Quick summary: 1. Oil and filter change. 2. Differential fluid change. 3. Activation of launch control (DCT). Manuals don't require transmission fluid change at 1200 miles. Hope this helps.

Gee, here I thought the reason for a forum was to find helpful folks that will answer someone's question instead of berating them.
Guess not. Thanks to those nice people who did answer.

Shame on your dealer for not performing the correct service. They should know better, especially in the Big Apple.

There's a difference becuase being lazy and putting in effort. It took you longer to post the thread than doing a search using Google or even the search function in this forum. Not trying to berate you. Didn't say it was a dumb question. |

For the same effort it took to do your post, you could have simply answered. How exactly would you find this answer on google? There's so many threads that finding the answer on the forum is also quite difficult, But thanks again.

it was actually New Jersey- but in general- I find that car dealers away from the bigger cities are far more accommodating- and trustworthy.

In Google search bar, type something like [ 1200 mile service site:f80.bimmerpost.com ] and see what comes up. Like all searching, you have to develop some feel for useful search terms. It is the "site:" tag that focuses the search to this site (or whatever site you specify). |

But as for the service, Make sure they give you new crush washers and not reuse replacable items. Double check the final order to make sure they placed the correct fluids & quantities in as well. There are stickies with the correct part #'s. But more importantly, if your getting this kind of service or lack thereof and misinformation from your dealer, you may want to try a different one. I believe they are reimbursed by BMW. Call ahead to make sure they have the correct oil and parts. Also underneath the mantainence section, there are helpful stickies and tips to help you out. good luck OP |

About the dealers: It's quite difficult near NYC- Manhattan BMW has a horrendous reputation. I was going to the Port Chester facility with my prior two cars- and it was quite good. Then it was sold to Penske, and my service adviser left, and it went down the tubes in terms of service.... Many of the dealers won;t offer loaners if you did not purchase the car there - and if it's far from home, that's an issue... The service department have called me a few times since yesterday making sure I was satisfied- so I'm hoping to get a good answer from them tomorrow....

My bad!
I spoke to the service department and the oil change was indeed performed. The service advisor had told me that the oil was just topped off, but went to check the paperwork when I called it turns out they did change oil and replace the filter |
