Mishimoto vs BMS oil catch can

I guess mishimoto just came out with their new baffled catch can.

I wonder if anyone has seen any data on their new catch can vs. the traditional BMS version.

They literally just came out so nobody has them yet.

We just got the release as dealers.

They offer a 2 port, 3 port and drain option.

There is also a savings from buying from a dealer like us VS direct from Mishimoto.

We carry both
BMS is the most popular OCC, it works well and as advertised.
If you would like to try something different, Mishimoto is a good choice. We also offer lifetime warranty with it.

Thanks for the interest in our catch can system! I think you may be referencing our compact baffled oil catch can which is shown below.

This particular unit is currently being offered as a universal can and is also incorporated into some of our direct-fit catch can kits. These kits include vehicle-specific mounting brackets and molded lines for a clean install.

We are actually in the midst of developing a direct-fit kit for the N54 at the moment. Our full R&D is being covered in the thread below.

http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1094729

One of the key differences with this setup is our catch can lid. We actually designed a new lid specific to the N54 which features larger ports to accommodate the larger line size used on the CCV system of the E90. This eliminates any restrictions caused by necking down the hose diameter before entering the can.

The first page of our thread linked above shows the 3D-printed lid, our first prototype unit is shown below.

One of the primary benefits of our current prototype is the can location. We've moved the can from the rear of the engine bay to the front for easier access and servicing.

We also use a 50-micron bronze filter for oil separation and include an internal baffle which provides resistance to sloshing and an additional surface for condensation. In our other direct-fit setups, we've seen some nice accumulation in a relatively short time period. Take a look at this same catch can after 300 miles in an EcoBoost Mustang.

We are working towards a final design and should have an update on our E90-specific kit very soon.

Thanks again!
-John

Correct! We are still in the R&D phase for our direct-fit kit.

This can is a bit on the larger side and would probably not be suitable for the constraints of the E90 engine compartment. I would recommend our compact unit which should provide ample fluid capacity and is the selection we are using for our direct-fit kit.

Thanks!

Hey guys since you are here, I have question on a few Mishimoto N54 products. I ordered the Thermostat, tried to install it into a 2008 e90 with a plastic thermostat, it was not even close to fitting, completely different thermostat. Can you clarify that this actually fits the N54's. Also is this line kit in stock, we are finishing up an engine build and need one quickly. Mishimoto BMW E36/E46/E90 Oil Line Fitting Kit .

Thanks!

Sounds as if you may be looking at our full size baffled oil catch can.

http://www.mishimoto.com/mishimoto-b...catch-can.html

With full options, this comes in at less than the price you have listed, even at our MSRP. Keep in mind that our vendors will be able to offer this at the best available pricing.

Additionally, this is quite a large catch can and we found that our new compact baffled oil catch can is far better suited for the constricted engine bay of the E90 (as well as a high percentage of modern vehicles).

We will be using our compact baffled unit for our E90 direct-fit kit which is currently in development. This unit can be seen in the images posted above!

Hey Tony! Interesting that you are having issues with the thermostat housing. We spec'd this unit to fit within the stock plastic housing. Any chance the offending housing is an aftermarket piece? Sending you a PM shortly for more information in regards to the vehicle and to provide information about the line fitting kit we offer.

Thanks!

I don't think installing a catch can will add horse power. I think it will save horse power from being lost as well as time and money; in the long run you can probably reduce the amount of intake valve cleanings one will need to perform on the car, over the time you own it.
