HELP! Loud clunking noise coming from front differential...

Hi guys,

So I got 2008 e92 335xi with 112k miles on it. Today I was driving to school, and when I started from red light (normal start, no racing etc.) the car started making really loud clunking noise coming from front differential (at least that what I think). The noise is so loud that I am unable to drive. It will get towed tomorrow. The clucking is so bad, that at first I thought the pistons shoot through the head lol. When i drive slowly the clunking is not that bad but you can hear like metal ringing noise and then when i go faster it starts pounding. I notice that the noise goes away when I'm turning left or right. Also when I lifted the car so both of the front wheels are in the air I notice that when i spin the left wheel in one direction, the right one spins in the opposite direction ( and I think thats how it should be) but then when I spin the right wheel in either direction the left does not move. Is that maybe bad axle? or the whole differential is gone? Anyone had similar problems? Please any help or advice would be helpful and greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Thanks, I hope so. I saw ecstuning has the replacement axels that go for 100 bucks. Is it worth it? Anyone have any experience with them or I'm better off with spending the 450 and just buying the original axel?

Yea those are fine and the quality is almost like oem and alot cheaper .BTW just hope that the passenger side is not broken because the axle runs threw the oil pan and that's a completely different job that needs to be done , as in dropping the subframe and blah blah , bullshit xdrive problems
