Deposits required to get on M2 Waiting List???

For those of you that have gotten onto the M2 Waiting List - did they require a deposit?

I just checked with my local dealer and they only have one employee on the list but wanted $1000 to hold the second slot.

Assuming that you are going to have to pay MSRP for the first 12 months I am tempted to give them a deposit.

Thoughts! Anyone on a list without a deposit?

Mine wanted £1000 GBP but I said £500 and that was fine. This was back in June.

I always feel it's more official with a money secured deposit, I made sure I could change it to F80 at any time though so all is not lost.

Yes, deposit placed and hoping it would be the real M3 i was looking for. If not, mine is refundable if the specs is not to my liking.

Most of the time, it would be a $1000 refundable deposit. Luckily, I didn't have to pay that because I've got a great relationship with my salesman. I'm #3 on the list and not too worried about it. It would be a plus if I can get to do the mass ED though.

However, when the specs come out or when you are able to build these online, I'll probably have to put a deposit down myself too.

I could not find a dealer in SoCal willing to take my money for a deposit. Perhaps some are waiting to see if this is a limited model like the 1M, and if so, start gouging customers. Who knows. Others have said they don't know about the model yet, so no need for a list.

I put down a $1000 fully refundable deposit at my local dealer and was guaranteed the first spot in line. Ask if they can make it refundable and go for it!

My Predicted Order:
M2 Coupe - 6MT - Donington Gray - Cloth Seats - Harmon Kardon

Yes, deposits are generally required to secure the allocation of an unreleased car that is expected to be in high demand.

This is a time honored way for the dealer to separate the real potential buyers from all the "strokers" and dreamers that grace their premises on a daily basis.

You would probably need to put a deposit down once you spec it and the dealer orders it to your specifications anyway, so think of this as a way of getting that over with early!

No deposit in SA.
Just a friend.
Other dealership wanted what would be an equivalent of around $450.

Only with the steering feel but it drives very well with the suspension set on sport+. I was thinking to sell my F80 for the GT4 I have coming in and maybe a M2 6 months later. I don't think the M2 would be much of a downgrade from the F80?

Only in the power delivery. If the revamped N55 can come somewhat resemble the S55, everyone will be happy.

My dealer did not ask for a deposit. I don't know if I am on a list or not or if there even is one. But when I was interested in the 1M before it was available, I did the same thing and as soon as an order could be placed they called me. I assume that the same will happen this time.

I inquired about the M2 and my dealer never mentioned a list or even having information on it yet (other than it being in the inventory list). Sounds like I can't really reserve anything until its officially announced.

I'm interested in a group ED which will probably not be the first production allotment anyway since I'm assuming that will take place in spring time 2016.

Show them pics of the test cars, along with a screen shot of when SOP is. That ought to convince them that you know what you are talking about

P.S. Wasn't expecting to get the M2 this early, but I'd defnitely be in for the mass ED too.

My dealer was saying 10% non refundable but I think that's the usual phrase to weed out the tire kickers.

Heck. I work for the auto group, so I only plan on putting $500-1000 max till official word comes out.

I was the only one asking about it as of 2 months ago.

That's ridiculous. I would find another sales associate or BMW Center.
