How to restart idrive

My audio/speakers seems to intermittently work leading me to think it is a software or contact issue with the speaker which is overriding idrive or something. My question is: how can you re-start idrive? I've tried holding the mute button in but still no success. I've also tried holding the mute and eject key too and holding the idrive wheel down plus eject and/or holding. Still no success. The manual is no help either. The F20 has the most basic idrive. Thanks in advance!

Hold down the power button on the stereo for a LONG time, like 30 seconds at least.

The hold power button for 30 seconds does exactly the same as leaving the car locked for 20 minutes so it goes to "sleep".

I used to be able to reset the idrive with a long press on volume button, but since I've had software updated, it doesn't work anymore.
