The M2 according to Auto Bild

FWIW: the M2 according to Auto Bild (issue #15 of 10 April 2015):
  • power output: 385hp
  • 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph): 0.2s slower than the M4
  • colors: limited to white, black and blue ("Speedblau")
  • options list: more limited than ever
  • price: around EUR54K (Germany)
  • introduction: January 2016 - Detroit Motor Show (hm, make that September 2015 - IAA [Frankfurt Auto show], at least for the base M2)
As I said, for what it's worth...

The 0-62 acceleration is good. I'll take a tune and smoke a stock M3. If the options/colors are limited, no Bueno.

I've given up with all the crazy speculation and I'm finding it easier than ever to just sit back and wait, Scott's already said he has seen a donington grey car, and someone else posted that there was a LBB Blue one at the German factory.

It doesn't work like that.

The M4 costs 72.5k EUR in Germany and 64.2 USD in the US.
So if the M2 costs 54k EUR in Germany it should cost around 48k USD in the US.

54.000 Euro would be a great price. M235i with auto gearbox costs in Germany 47.000, so the price gap between these two would be much smaller than between 435i auto and M4 (50.500 vs 72.500).

I agree with you.

We don't know where that German car mag got its info from. We will know this Summer whether the info was (in)accurate.

Or if the M2 specs disappoint, I'm jumping onto your side of the fence.

Lol. First world problems.

I just want the M2 to be small, light and fun. Is that to much to ask for??

Yes it is. You'll get 2 to 2.5 out of 3. Small and fun is guaranteed, "light" is questionable at best.
Hoping that the new CLAR architecture makes its way into the next generation M2 for significant weight savings.
So how many miles on the M3 did you manage to rack up to date?

Not many as I've been so busy at work. I have only 50 miles on her lol. I did hit 150 last night doing some break in pulls. Really looking forward to a private trackday at Monticello race club next week!

There should be at least 6 colors offered for a non-limited release à la M3/M4, M235i, ect... Very sad if they limit it to 3. That's almost as bad as the standard color lineup they chose for the M3/M4. I'd like to see this speedblau, now that sounds a little interesting.

The M2 teasing marketing would be rolled out any time soon.

Well, the arms of the drummer start to ache a little...

It needs another 100hp to 'smoke' an M3/M4...not going to happen with just a tune. The design of heat dissipation, fuel delivery, turbo size, strength of components and suspension setups are for a 370-400hp car, not for 450hp+.

At best with a tune, it can run with an M3/M4.
