BMW greatly expands CFRP use in new 7-series - M2 to get new CFRP parts?

New 7 Series sees extensive use of CFRP in new chassis design

With the announcement of the new "lightweight" 7 Series and extensive use of CFRP in the new chassis design, will the M2 see some new/unexpected CFRP parts to reduce weight?

Obviously, with the price points involved it wouldn't be as extensive as the 7 series, but it would be nice to see some weight reduction of the 2 Series chassis by using similar design methodology through the use of CFRP.

Maybe next gen. Very doubtful it'll happen this time round as they test the waters, but would love to see otherwise. They won't want it too much like a mini m3/m4 in that regard. The only cfrp-ish part we might get would be the driveshaft. Other than that i don't think we'll see a great amount of deviation from the standard 2er weight wise.

Once the production limits are expanded and refined it will trickle down to all 35UP Series Cars. Not sure the 2er will be so luck anytime soon.

Highly doubt the M2 will see CFRP especially on the current platform. Everything starts on the expensive brands and works its way down.

The engine and fwd won't matter though. It will be driving you around by itself anyway, right?

I think we'll at least get the carbon fiber strut brace from the M235i Racing and the M3/M4 as that was essentially confirmed by Scott in this older thread:
M235i Racing Engine Compartment

Does anyone know if this piece is CFRP or straight carbon fiber?

I agree that we might see the CFRP driveshaft, that's an easy one to substitute in any platform and is a good marketing opportunity. Carbon fiber driveshafts are more common than people think though, my 350z actually came with one and that was 10 years ago. For the 350z I've read that it was more for crashworthiness than reduced weight though.

Does anyone know if the M235i or M235i Racing included a CFRP driveshaft?

I don't expect anything drastic for the M2. It's the entry M and so don't expect extensive weight savings or extensive CRFP which is cost prohibitive. It's cheaper to slap a detuned S55 than aim for extensive weight savings. My humble $0.02...

Now if bean counters weren't running the show and BMW grew balls once again...maybe we can see a hardcore M2 version. Btw if that's in the works BMW should at least announce this so that those of us that are willing to pay for it know to wait...
Again, show us Passion, not Politics...Profits will come....

BMW is as profitable as ever....not sure that argument works.

No way this car sees massive carbon fiber treatment before all the other more expensive cars in the lineup. Carbon fiber still isn't cheap and panels for such a limited run car like the M2 probably don't make sense.
