X5M questions

Is anyone considering putting run flats on the new X5M? I am considering one, but had a flat tire in the middle of no-where last weekend in my S550 and it was a mess. Does it have a spare?

Does the new X5M have active cruise control? I notice that it is an option on all the other X models, including the X3, but don't see it has an option on the X5M. Is it standard?

Is the Idrive 4G now??

Yes. It includes a spare.

Active Cruise Control is not an option on any current M vehicle. I've heard several theories as to why, including a few direct from M GmbH. It's either because the sensor restricts airflow due to the kidney design (your S550 has it behind the MB star on the front) or because BMW ran out of space for the ACC buttons on the steering wheel. In M cars, the buttons used to specify the ACC distance are replaced by M1 and M2 mode buttons.

iDrive is not yet 4G, but soon.

After my flat tire debacle, I'll never buy another car without a spare, and preferably with runflats.

On the 2010-2013, the spare was an option of about 150$ when ordering, much more expensive to retrofit. In Canada, the spare wasn't officially available for those years but could be ordered for like 600$ (400$ special order + cost of the spare)

Spare Tire

Hi everyone. I see a lot of talk about spare tires on the X5M but still confused. I just bought a used 2016 X5M and the tire compartment is carpet and no spare. Does that mean the car did not come with that option? It has the 21in wheels on it. I figured I could just buy a spare and sit it in the space without removing the carpet. I just want to know your thoughts if that is possible as I don't think it would slide around as it is a compact spot. I am also worried about purchasing the wrong spare and it not fitting with the 21 inch wheels. Thoughts? Or should I just forget about it and call a tow truck if there is any flat tire problems in the future? Thanks!

Spare was an option on the car, so some come with and otherwise without. Runflats were not an OEM option on the X5M. I have the spare as I do a lot of highway driving, but also have plug kits galore in the garage; actually just did a repair last night for a nail right in the middle of my rear tread. It's nice to have both options.

I am the third owner and as far as I know the Dunlop Sport Maxx runflats were OEM.

The drone at speed is no fun.

It didn't help my case with the ball and chain for Pilot SS replacements when this found its way to the left rear last July. Tire monitoring reported a loss of tire pressure and she was able to continue driving nearly normally.

A quick $555 later the X5 M was back on the road 100%.

The nail not the pen. The pen is there just for perspective.

Looks exactly like the nail I pulled out the other day. No $555 bill for me as I was on my Pirelli 20s. Although the Dunlops come in the 21 size, I don't think they were OEM on the F85s, maybe the F15s. BMW tends not to put run flats on their M cars; at least done of mine have ever come with run flats.

Maybe in 2015 X5M tire sizing wasn't available in non-runflats or one of the previous two owners changed them.
