Interior ?

So... Any speculation regarding interior quality for the M2 ? Updates or changes Compared to the current 235i or an M3 for example?

Will there be any new features not yet introduced in currently existing models?

I am still contemplating possibly diving into an M2.. Would be my first BMW. Bare with me on my lack of familiarity with the product.

Checked out some BMW's recently to get an idea of what I can expect interior wise from the M2... (Of course, the anticipated driving experience of the M2 is primarily what draws me to it).. All my vehicle purchases have been... Fun/performance oriented vehicles... but I'm still curious where the interior quality will land.

I Found the M3 interiors I seen.. to be pretty fantastic to say the least. I was quite impressed. I won't bother elaborating.

As for the 235i's I checked out.. I loved the dimensions of the car and everything so that's reassuring. Comfort/interior wise it was well below the M3 (expected given the price difference.) But, I found it to be really just "good" but not great. (I checked out the 235i's first... before the M3's... so that my opinion wouldn't be as impacted by an obviously more expensive car.) But I have to say, the 235i left me... scratching my head... Coming from mostly Ford products... I expected a bigger difference considering a base 235i would still run me 55k here. It did not feel like a 50-60k car inside.
However, I appreciated the dimensions, and I Was comfortable. I am not as obsessed with interiors as many seem to be.. I am more concerned with driving. (Which is why my fiesta st is about the most enjoyable vehicle I've ever driven, in spite of costing less than pretty much everything else I've driven.)

Will the M2 be a noticeable leap in either quality or comfort ? With the M2 being more performance focused... Is the 235i supposed to be more comfortable inside than the M2? Or in spite of the M2's performance focus... will it also bring a better interior with that hefty premium it will likely command.

Also had to see how accessible the back seats were.. and how the headroom was... Seems a lot of reviews of the 235i liked to pick on the back..
Given that it's a sports coupe.. I don't have immense expectations for the rear.. But I have to say I was pleasantly surprised that it was not nearly as bad as I found the reviews lead me to believe it would be.

I owned a 2010 Camaro 2SS/RS m6.. so I've done the RWD coupe in the past. I have to say, it was a lot easier to get into the back of the 235i than it was the Camaro. Comfort and head room/leg room was probably similar. But it is in my opinion adequate for my daily needs. I was quite comfortable sitting in the back behind both the driver and passenger seats... when they were positioned as they would be when I drive. The accessibility of that back made a big difference for me though. It was noticeably more of a challenge with the Camaro I had. Pleasant surprise after all the reviews/opinions I read.

Excuse my rant.... Losing my sanity waiting for more details/images of this elusive M2.

So many new and exciting cars coming soon from many makers... But All I want to know about is the M2....

I don't think there are too many details. Someone may chime in on the seats. All I will say is they better make the seats standout compared to m235i and use the same leather as m3. I wasn't very impressed with m235i and even the 1M. Not a fan of printed hard leather. Understand it may be a cost thing but they could at least make it an option or make them alcantara/merino or Napa leather combo

I don't think there can be a vast leap from M235i quality to M2. Expect some better seats, trim and wheel etc but the interior will IMHO need to remain similar of course in relation to most plastics used etc. Nappa seats like the M3/4 could be nice if that carries across.

Who knows though, just weeks and months of speculation agghh!

Hows the M4 going Chris? Are you still considering the M2 when its announced or are you quite happy to stay enjoying the M4?

Every time I drive dads M3 i just fall in love with it, Did over 250 miles in it last friday and its without a doubt the best car Ive ever experienced, getting back in the M135i just feels so lame I just cant make the monthlies work on an M3 yet personally...sigh!

I just hope it doesn't rattle. Give me that and I'm pretty happy.

Yeah really good thanks Colin. I'm less certain about the M2 these days, I'm sure when its announced it will be superb, just so much tbc at the moment.

M4 is a blast, perhaps getting a little too used to it every now and then with the daily commute but then when I get some time to have a real run out..... its just the most amazing real world car! M3 for Dad and M2 for you is some family combo! The summer is helping with the coupe of course, sun roof and windows down, very pleasant!

You can pretty much bet on leather not being standard, as it isn't in the F80/F82 twins. There has been some talk about the M2 getting its own seats, which would be a very welcome addition (the 1M getting "standard" sport seats was a bit of a let down IMO, though I understand the constraint). I also agree that we likely won't see the soft leather as seen in the higher-end M models...perhaps we'll get Dakota or another new variety, but don't expect it to be Merino.

Beyond some nice contrast stitching and some alacantara pieces, I would say don't get your hopes up for a big deviation from the regular 2 series.

We definitely don't need some adorable light up headrests. Cloth seats would be cool but I would be surprised if they make an appearance in the us market.

Is it weird that I don't like the better leather? I'd probably get speed cloth anyway, but from a durability standpoint, the closer to vinyl the better. I guess I just find the softer leather cracks, is harder to take care of, and fades faster. I also slip around too much in the twisties.

As much as I like the soft hand of the nicer leathers, I'm way too OCD to put up with wear and tear while remaining sane. I'll likely go cloth in the M2 as well.

The Carbonstructure Anthracite cloth from the M3/M4 would be great:

I would prefer some sort of Alcantara seat material as well, similar to the one you mention, but I don't want to get my hopes up.

Also, I used to have similar thoughts about the Carbonstructure cloth but once I saw it in person I changed my mind. It's worth a look if you haven't seen it in person yet.

I'm just hoping for some sweet seats a la M3/M4. The 1M's seats were nothing special.

You'll get what the jump between 435 to m4 with the m235i to m2... Interior will feel the same just bits and pieces that'll be different... Pretty logical

FWIW a bunch of people were complaining about the quality of the leather on the M3, especially the Sahkir Orange wearing very fast (much faster than the Coral Red Dakota leather).

I would expect some modest improvements, new color options, some bits of carbon, new seats, same steering wheel as the M3, but outside of that don't get your hopes up. I would not expect the leather wrapped dash as an option like it is on the M3 or much beyond that.

Expect them to keep a healthy gap between the M3 and the M2.

Alcantara would be cool to though. I just hope we get some nice light/performance-oriented options.

Could be just stitching as far as we know. All the 1M got was just the orange stitching.

Assuming LBB is a launch color like Valencia Orange was for the 1M, I wouldn't be even a little bit surprised if we got the sports seats with blue stitching.

Look at the pictures showing the seats covered in the test cars. They definitely seem to be all new.
