If M2 approaches 60 grand

If the M2 comes anywhere close to 60 grand I really can't see purchasing one over the Cadillac ATS V. All the videos and reviews of the caddy just make it a no brainer. I did not care for the looks of the standard ATS but the V looks really sweet. It out performs the M3/M4 too.

Sure, if you want straight line fast. I know the Americans have been living at the Nurburgring for some time now, but they still have a long ways to go before they can touch the Germans

Ats-v Just doesn't look right to me, even more it's just not an impressive "looking" vehicle

I don't think it'll approach 60. the way they seem to be positioning the base M2 just doesn't add up to that. I think it'll be reasonable to get a mildly optioned one at 53-55.

The ATS V is not your daddys Caddy...they built it to go head to head with the M3 and M4 with impressive results and not just Hp and Torque numbers...it supposedly handles well too. I think it looks very impressive. The interior blows BMW away. I love me some BMW but damn this Caddy is going to be special.

Shhhh it's not good to talk about American cars like that in here. Now sit down and let's be good boys and pretend American cars are just big fat and can't handle so we feel okay with ourselves.

Lol...I get it! I am not a fanboy of any car except Porsche...which is out of my realm except for a modestly optioned Cayman/Boxter. I love my 228i for performing so well at such a modest price. I give credit where credit is due though and this Caddy is tight! Will it beat the M3/M4 at the ring...prob not its extra power and increased handling comes with a 200 lb weight gain over thr Bimmers, but I bet the official numbers will be close.

I agree. Also I think that if the m2 is priced starting at just under 50k it will be an incredible amount of car for the money and I would definitely be in.

At a base price anywhere over $55k, close to $60k with options, I would be all over a stripper F80 M3 which already comes standard with every I want (maybe just add the 19's and adaptive suspension)

Well, the ATS-V is a M3/M4 competitor...Cadillac is working on a smaller RWD car that will compete with the 2 series.

Really, I think BMW missed the boat by not making a 2 series Gran Coupe, or just a 1 series sedan. I also think that they should have made a M4 Gran Coupe, as the 4/M4 has a very long awkward roofline and the 4 series Gran coupe to my eyes looks better proportioned than the 4 series coupe or 3 series sedan.

My point was price...if the M2 is close to 60,000 it would be silly to pay that when the ATS V which is a M3/M4 competitor, would blow the doors off an M2 for the same money. That makes me think the M2 should be priced closer to $50000, but then its close to the M235i. This all makes me think the M2 may end up being underwelming as it can't get to close to the M4 in performance and price.

BMW are busy with this as we speak, so far its dubbed as a 1 series sedan, I think the 2 series GC may only have headroom for kids if they go that route.

As for buying traditional American cars, their weight just kills me.

it's going to be FWD, man....the stuff of nightmares! (See 2-series Active Tourer for reference! lol)

The M2 will probably be around $50-52k base price. Not much room to go more than that or go less than that...

I have to agree, the most recent rumors suggest the M2 will carry a reasonable price tag.

If marginally over the M235, could we see the end of the M-performance 2er as it moves on to become the 240i?

No the M240i is still scheduled for production next year.

What I'm a bit curious about is if the M235/M2 split was always in the BMW plans or was the M2 a recent add on to their plan.

From a pure performance standpoint you may be right but the look of the ATS-V is not for everyone. It's loud and that's not everyone's cup of tea. The interior of the ATS that I have driven (6 cylinder model) was not that great either. The little chrome bits to me yell cheese more so than sophisticated. It's also a much bigger car than the 2 series. I think the real question is: why get an ATS-V when you can get a lightly optioned M3?

That's why I've always loved the M3 (with the E46 being my favorite from purely a design standpoint). You can be a mature, successful, grown up and drive it without feeling like you're going through a mid-life crisis.

Maybe when I see the ATS-V in person I will feel differently but for now my opinion is that from a styling perspective it attracts a different buyer.

To be honest, if the M2 approaches the 60k mark, id be better off buying a used 2012-2013 e92 m3 or a used 2013 c63 :/

I'd say the M2 will be over $68k in the UK for the spec I want as the M235i is already $61k!!

I think if many of us were just concerned with price and relative performance, we'd all be in corvettes with the sport package. That's like what? 58k?

Yea exactly. And a Mustang GT350 is even less than that.

I'm assuming by now you guys know what you are looking for.

This

I suspect a well optioned one will be at/over 60k.

Based on the news so far there may not be such a thing as "well optioned".
