Given Dinan's Stage 1 for the M235i, what do you think they can do with the M2?
The unconfirmed specs on the M2 in terms of horsepower and torque don't look a whole lot different from what a Dinan Stage 1 will do on a M235i. Do you think tuners will have any room with the M2, given that it's the same engine? Why or why not?

You just said it - unconfirmed specs.

You make a fair point, but writing the thread off is silly. We can infer a ton from how BMW does business, even without confirmed specs. They're not going to make something that competes with the F80 M3 that's cheaper than the M3. That's just not their style.
We know the engine is the S55 and that they warranty new cars. That much has been confirmed. They're extremely unlikely for those reasons to put +400 HP/TQ in a M2. |

I have Dinan in my car now, and I'll never waste my money on it for these new piggyback systems. It's done nothing but give me issues and the power isn't really there. I know my engine isn't the big bad 3 litre, but it still hasn't given me the power they claim it does. However, I believe once the car is released and tuners get a hold of it, making 450HP shouldn't be a problem at all. Since it's basically an N55, chances are the basic bolt ons will carry over. The R&D for most of the tuning has already been done as well, so tunes should be quick to hit the shelves once the car has been released. I'm interested to see how much extra power people on here can extract out of this engine, but I think I'll do basic bolt ons and worry more about aesthetics.

Doubt I add a tune in the short term and I don't need an S designated engine specifically. However, it would be disappointing if GmbH picks the low hanging fruit and only remaps the engine then calls it quits.

If they repeat the 1M treatment onto the 2 then there is not much room to move in terms of getting maximum power. There will be more mid range torque to be had by upping the boost.
What's the point for BMW to engineer a 380hp car to 450hp+ standard in reliability with say a minimum of 10%-20% increase in manufacturing cost? They don't have the aftermarket tuners in mind when they designed the car. |

No matter what I get (M2, 3, or 4), it's staying stock. There will be options but performance always comes at the expense of long-term reliability and I'd rather spend my hard earned money elsewhere...

I doubt jb4 with a few bolt ons and 91 would reduce engine reliability...
I think its the funky gas people put and do everything to increase boost to double factory and nor that slowly increasing wear |
