19" Wheel Shortage
I hope everyone realizes that BMW did this to themselves by advertising nothing but the 19" wheels and delivering every car to an auto show or mag test with 19's.
Now they say they didn't anticipate the demand of the 19's? Get real. If you only show the car with one wheel, then it is pretty clear what will happen. Simply wretched that BMW inconveniences it's customers by creating the problem in the first place. My dealer asked someone at BMWUSA in NJ if they had a picture of the US spec 18's and they said no and that they would try to find one. Are you kidding me?? Is this actually happening? That answer absolutely floored me. Again, what did BMW expect from this type of advertising? I find this completely unacceptable. To date, no picture has been found and relayed to a potential customer.

I hear what you are saying--but they seem to do this on other cars as well. The 335 was marketed with the 189's--I never saw anything with the non-sport wheels (see, I don't even know the style number ).
That being said, the 18's are gun-metal, right? I have never understood the appeal of this type of finish. I do understand that different peeps like different things, but they always just look dirty to me. Not much "pop" if you will. But I do agree--BMW should have realized how things would shake out by showing the car solely with the optional 19's.

I'm thinking that they know the M3 will sell incredibly well regardless of how they treat us. Sadly even if their CEO took a crap on my hood, I'd still buy the car.

I don't think I'd buy the exact same car on which the CEO crapped on

I agree. I think the advertising, and the 19's being a pretty affordable upgrade has led to the backorders.

Sure, that's what happens when there is no real competition, but how will some frustrated customers reflect on this 4 years down the road when there might be tougher competition?

Went by my dealer today, they had no clue about anything. No news of an official launch date, no color swatches, no brochures, nada. Only thing they new was their launch car was wrecked in the boat incident!

Thats funny and so true. It can always be washed off. Just goes to show how badly we want this car already.

Ironically this is part of the problem - we don't even know for sure what the finish actually is, so some are avoiding it. And there appear to be at least two styles for 18", and again there are no details as to who gets which and what the differences are. Very poor.

I would agree with this. If you go and build a 335 on the BMWUSA website and opt for the 19" wheels, you're easily looking at spending more than 4 grand vs only $1200 for the M.

The E46 M3 stock wheels were "chrome shadow" (blackened slilver). Didn't like those, either. Actually, just bought a set of those today to put on my '0 before I sell it, though.

Sounds like a dealer that doesn't care about sh!t except to sell a car. If a dealer (especially a sales rep) can't even keep up with what's going on with the product line they are selling, they would not get my business.
