WTF don;t they just stick a few pence on a litre of fuel. Then those who use most, pay most.

Let's say 30ish mpg
8L/100km 16,000KM = 1,280L add 1pence and you get £12.80 a year from doing that 10p/L and £128.00 You'd really need to add a lot to get the same revenue |

The "same revenue" maybe. But at the moment the Government is getting revenue from cars sitting in peoples garages doing nothing.

Try living rural for a few years. Never using motorways, however still having to drive on crappy B roads and A roads for 20 miles just to go to a supermarket. Also it's not fair on segment of population that can't afford newer fuel efficient cars. |

It's been bad enough living in country and local garage charging 10p more for fuel. The cheaper fuel is, the more people are prepared to travel for work. A lot of people struggle not only to buy a car but also to run it, kicking them with extra fuel costs is just crap. Tolls are fairer and catch domestic and foreign vehicles. |

So back on topic.
Given the (rise in) insurance and tax on a £500 banger, there is a growing number of scrotes that will just buy the car - worst that can happen for them is a few points and a crushed car. Worst that can happen to you is they hit you while texting/on the phone! |
