WTF don;t they just stick a few pence on a litre of fuel. Then those who use most, pay most.

And what about those who are incentivised to buy low emission cars and who actually don't pay tax (legitimately)?

Let's say 30ish mpg

8L/100km

16,000KM = 1,280L

add 1pence and you get £12.80 a year from doing that

10p/L and £128.00

You'd really need to add a lot to get the same revenue

They're normally sad Muppet's. Anyone who buys are car because it has Zero road tax should walk.

The "same revenue" maybe. But at the moment the Government is getting revenue from cars sitting in peoples garages doing nothing.

No I am dead against this.

Try living rural for a few years.

Never using motorways, however still having to drive on crappy B roads and A roads for 20 miles just to go to a supermarket.

Also it's not fair on segment of population that can't afford newer fuel efficient cars.

Fat little shit - bit of a contradiction in terms but made me laugh out loud will try to use that phrase tomorrow

Don't forget when you sell a car the govt gets paid twice for that month !!!

Legal for them to profit twice, considered as fraud when I do.

You point doesn't hold water(petrol) If you drive a less fuel efficient car, you pay more road tax. After all it's a pollution tax.My 9 year old 140 BHP Mazda cost more to tax than my 326 BHP BMW.

Maybe that is why come 2017, it's 140 quid.

It's been bad enough living in country and local garage charging 10p more for fuel.

The cheaper fuel is, the more people are prepared to travel for work.

A lot of people struggle not only to buy a car but also to run it, kicking them with extra fuel costs is just crap.

Tolls are fairer and catch domestic and foreign vehicles.

That's just typical of the mindset of so many people in this Country. The people doing better in life should subsidise the rest. So from your rational the. The person in the living in the countryside (maybe by choice) should pay less to use the roads, than someone who commutes by train or bus and leaves their car on the drive. And what has "tolls" got to do with road tax?

So back on topic.

Given the (rise in) insurance and tax on a £500 banger, there is a growing number of scrotes that will just buy the car - worst that can happen for them is a few points and a crushed car. Worst that can happen to you is they hit you while texting/on the phone!
