Brake Squeaking

Do you guys have a slight brake squeak like 2mph-> 0mph? It happens one out of three full stops I make... it's kind of annoying

Perhaps it's a function of the larger brakes all 4 of us (well, we have not taken delivery of ours yet) seem to have. I can tell you that I've owned an SLK55 for 10 years and it has huge brakes and does it, and many SLK55 owners report the same.

My Subaru had pretty large brakes but never squealed... only in reverse.

Experienced it a couple of times when driving but always in low speed when the brakes are cold and haven't reached optimal operating temperature.

It has to do with the brake pad compound and the cold temps. I would bed the brakes and see if it helps. Or you could just get used to it or get different brake pads.

Mine did when new before the pads 'bedded' in..but now that they are, I don't hear anything. Your car new?

Mine have squeaked since picking it up in germany. dealer said it's due to the performance breaks...doubt that's the case but I've gotten use to it now.

Here's instructions on how to "bed" the brakes. Best to do this when the car is new, but it can be done later and will remove the brake squeal in some cases.

I'm about to roll over 800 miles and this has gotten pretty bad on mine. Only happens with light brake pressure 10mph > 0mph like in traffic. Problem is most of my driving is done in traffic. Haven't had a chance to try a full bedding procedure yet because it's hard to find an open road around here.

Today I had to drive over "Grooved Pavement", aka a pebble tsunami.

Got a pebble stuck in my brakes... the scraping was so loud I had to pull over.

I was sitting there thinking for a while what the hell I'm going to do without a jack.

I put it in reverse and the pebble fell out.

xD

I'll second (or third) the squeaking when coming to a stop. I'm just over 8k miles and it's been happening on and off for the life of the car. Like Declio, I don't have an open road to bed the brakes. I just figured it was a "feature" of the performance brakes! I'll ask the service guys when I bring it in for the first service.

This happens to me as well, and I can say it is NOT due to cold weather, because my car hasn't seen cold weather yet. But same scenario as you all, light braking from like 5 mph to a stop. Kind of embarrassing
