Options advise....

I've got a F32 435i - fully loaded and after 6 months I'm looking to change to something more "practical" with 4 doors due to the other half finding out she's pregnant. I orginally test drove the M3 but there isn't too much difference price wise aginst the M5...

The deals on the M5 are very very aggressive and expecting to move forward with an order.

Any essentials I need to spec? Is the upgrade on alloys required?

Competition pack will likely be too expensive and unnecessary to add - unless someone says otherwise?

Any help or advise is really appreciated.

Thanks!

I can't really help tbh as I am trying to decide exactly what I want.
It's a bit of a no brainer when the m5 is actually cheaper to buy imo.

The wheels are just preference, the standards make the car look a little under wheeled but then the tyres will be cheaper to replace and ride is bound to be better.

Have a read though this thread

I think the standard spec is pretty good, although that didn't stop me adding a few things to it.

For me, I prefer the look of the 20" wheels over the 19". That's entirely subjective and depends a lot on whether it's worth £2k for some things you'll never see when you're in the car and get very little difference to what comes as standard.

I was debating over the Competition Pack and in the end talked myself out of it. 8 months on and I'd say it was probably the right choice. I find you can barely scratch the surface of the power available most of the time so an extra few horses aren't really necessary. The other tweaks that come with the CP may be worthwhile if you intend to drive the car hard along some twisty B roads but that doesn't feature in my daily drive so not worth it.

The only things I'd say you should add are the Surround View cameras, H/K sound and the Sun Protection Glass.

The one thing you may need to consider if you're having ISOFIX child seats would be the split folding rear seats. These come with the flaps that enable easy access to the ISOFIX points and make attaching the seats an absolute dream. Well worth it just for that, even if you never fold the seats down.

It's a great car with plenty of room and my kids love the noise, the power and the fun of it all.

This is what I added to mine - (Exterior and Interior Silverstone);

- 20" wheels - I just prefer the look
- HK - would have liked B&O but not good value - basic BMW systems generally sound poor
- Speed limit display - works very well with the HUD
- Soft close doors - wife wanted, I like them but not essential
- heated steering wheel - wife wanted, I wasn't fussed
- Auto boot closing - wife wanted, pretty useful TBH
- Piano black trim - I liked the standard alu trim, but this lifts it up a notch IMO
- Multifunction seats - I like these a lot, but they aren't that much better than the standard ones IMO. ie both types are great
- Split fold rear seats - should be standard
- sun protection glass - I just prefer the look, and hate aftermarket tints

Considered;

- LED headlights - they are nice but for me not worth the premium over Xenons
- B&O - I usually go for the best Hifi I can get, but it was about £1.5k too much IMO

Not interested in;

Surround view - heard good things but not fussed
Ceramic brakes - the car won't ever see a track
Internet - gimmick that I'd never use

Some useful advice on here.

I had an F10 550i with a huge spec. Couldn't actually get comfy in the comfort seats but found regular M sport seats to be nicer.

Surround view and reversing camera were great but I could live without them. Best things are the sunroof (standard on M5) and the HK.

I am looking at options with a view to ordering an M5, will probably go for HK and lumbar support, and that will be it. I like the 20s but will prefer the ride on 19s, so no wheel upgrade for me. I'm sat on the fence regarding split fold. Would love B&O but too pricey.

Possibly the extra 12v adaptors but I guess you get a 12v socket next to the ashtray anyway.

How's the performance and fun factor of the 550i? They seem a rare beast
