Break-in period mistake

Hi all-- newb question during my break in period (hit 740 miles today). I thought I was in automatic mode at a stop light and when the light turned green I proceeded to accelerate as if I was in automatic. Long story short, I hit about 5,500 rpms for a about second or two before realizing my idiocy and upshifted. I'm pretty sure these engines are robust enough to take a hit or two, but wondering if I hurt the car in any way? Thanks for the help.

You're good. The word thing that can happen is that you ended up with extra horses for this.

I raced an Amg C63 for my breakin miles for a thousand km's. Nobody has given me shit for that even once.

Not a big deal. Think 5500 RPMs is within break-in range anyway if I'm not mistaken. It's either 5k or 5.5k not to exceed I believe. Lots of folks don't follow break-in at all and claim to have no issues. I wouldn't worry about it.

I had 33 miles before I hit redline in 3rd going onto the autobahn on my ED trip. Saw speeds of 140+mph
Drive it hard, and if something will break it will likely break early in the products life time if pushed to the limit.

My dealer told me the warranty would be void if I used M mode prior to break-in period. I laughed my ass off and put it in M mode while I drove it off the showroom floor, then proceeded to accelerate hard to 6k rpms. Had the 1200 mile service last week and low and behold they didnt void my warranty!

Long story short OP the car is fine. The only thing the "break" in is going to do is get rid of any metal shavings in the fluids

You know how we moms party...

On a dyno day here, he beat all others by 20-30hp's when we got them dome the same day before tunes. My breakin was one night and a lot of fun memories.

Did you jump any medians? If yes, then you're good. Just post the video, so we can make sure all other components were protected as well. Safety first.

The official break-in procedures warrant that you avoid going over 5500 RPM.

Sounds to me as if you stayed within the break-in parameters.

There are those that state that the break-in recommendations are overly conservative, and that in fact to properly break in the car (eg: seals, rings) that some aggressive and spirited runs are part of it, and very beneficial. Not commenting on that, mainly because I have no experience on it at all.

The point is, you never exceeded the official recommendations. You are good.

Thanks to everyone for the helpful (and humorous; nope, no medians were jumped over during this episode ) comments! Much appreciated.

huh? what kinda clueless dealer is this? LOL! I told my dealer I went 5500 during break-in because i forgot to change gears and he said, if it's just a few secs don't worry about it.. just as long as it's not an extended amount of time.

Man you guys are a bunch a worry worts lol. I redlined mine in the first 10 miles shifting hard and ringing out 1st, 2nd and 3rd getting into the highway to see where the end of third is. Now I know the perfect speed for a rolling race is about 72mph in 3rd gear; brings it to about 5k RPM.
