Which Motul oil? N54

Wanting to do oil service and need abit of info

Which oil to use and how many litres exactly do these take?

Active recommends Motul but don't know which one exactly.
Anyone that has had their oil services there using Motul can you please let me know which one they used

I would call Steven from active myself but don't want to ask just in case he gets upset that he not doing it for me lol

6.5L of oil. I used 5W-40 Castrol Edge Titanium last time because it was on special at Repco. Bascially anything fully synthetic that says BMW LL-01 on the label is good to use.

I personally havent ran motul in my n54, but ran it in my 2jz and found the 5w40 x-cess i think it was gummed up causing a rough idle, went back to the cheaper castrol edge and never had that issue...

Like all lubricant suppliers they have a lube guide, simply punch in your vehicle and the reccemonded fluids will pop up and fluid capacities also

https://www.motul.com/au/en/products/recommendation

N54:

Capacity : Capacity 6,5 litre

Use : Flexible (max)
Intervals : Change 25000 km / 24 months
Products : 8100 X-CLEAN+ 5W-30 (year-round)
: 8100 X-CLEAN 5W-30 (year-round)
: 8100 X-CLEAN 5W-40 (year-round)
: 8100 X-CESS 5W-40 (year-round)
: 8100 X-MAX 0W-40 (year-round)
: SPECIFIC LL-04 5W-40 (year-round)

Do you use E85? I recall motul stating a few years back that certain motul fluids arent E85 compatiable (this was like 5 years ago)

Not using e85 yet as I'm waiting on doing a few other mods before trying it out

I googled n54 Motul oil and 8100 x-cess 5w-40 came up more than x-clean.

You said it gummed up your 2jz (supra?) would you not recommend it for our engines?

Fair enough dude.

No idea what the x-clean is, that's just what popped up on the motul lube guide for the N54.

Yeah it seemed to gum up in my 2JZ, and I also found that with the old mobil 1 5w50. The old mobil 1 formulation I believe use to have a lot of detergents causing the oil to gum up, and at the end of the change interval you could really tell with the rough idle and as soon as you dropped it and put the fresh stuff in it ran smooth again.

I'm not really saying don't use it, just in my experience that was an observation I had made

Castrol edge I've never had an issue with and is unbelievable BFYB when you get it on sale @ SCA (every year on bathurst day they have it on sale for around $29 for 5L and I get there at 9am and stock up!)

Personally I would prefer to buy castrol for $30-40 on sale and change it every 6 months or 5k kays rather than pay $80-100 for motul and use that for 12 months 10k kays

FWIW I'm currently running mobil 1 0W40 and have found it to be great in the N54. I have gone through 1L in ~ 3000k kays, albeit most of those are high speed kays (I average 50-60 km/h on most fills)

Hey mate. Question, how do you know you've been through 1 litre of oil in 3000km's? That's seems excessive to me! Really wish we had dipsticks on our cars, take me back to the old days lol

Totally agree regarding a generic dipstick!!!

Idrive warning message popped up on idrive when I got home from a 2 hour long drive to add 1L.

I topped up with 1L took it for a drive and rechecked the fluid level and it was right on full.

I'm not worried about 1L in 3000 kays at all. The oil has been in there for 10 months and all turbo cars putting out 300RWKW + I know of use a touch of oil (RB's JZ's etc)

I dont flog the bejesus out of my car but dont worry it gets a decent squirt everytime I take it out..

My car blows no smoke at all, but obviously like most tuned motors eats some oil!

I know that Rob from RB recommends Motul 300V for highly tuned N54's (probably 600-900hp range). Its expensive but if you only do 5000km's per year like myself then it could be worth spending the little bit extra each year. I wont be buying this oil anytime soon though

ROYAL PURPLE do good synthetic oils too!!
