RB Turbo N54 "Hotside" Chargepipe Silicone upgrade
Hey Guys,
Shane and I are participating in Robs newly designed hotside Chargepipe. For those who are interested in getting in on the introductory price of $189 and saving on a consolidated shipping cost. It's over on the tech site. |

Those pictures are for LHD units, RHD ones will be more pancaked on the aluminum sections. While you already have them off the car for the upgrade, its a good time to cut out the dents and weld on normal tubes like what Advan did:

I would like to also point that for people with stock style, C clip intercooler couplings you may have issues with sealing with a silicone pipe. The stock couplings were designed to seal on the inside diameter of the intercooler but this silicone pipe seals on the outside diameter.
Depending on your intercooler the outside diameter may not be designed to seal since there is no lip and theres a cutout for a C clip. Its why you never see silicone couplings on the charge pipe->throttle body connection. When I made a boost leak tester I had a shit time trying to clamp a silicone hose on my Wagner intercooler that uses stock couplings, took quite a few goes and a lot of clamping force to get a decent seal. Got nothing against this product, just want to point out any fitment issues for people

Sure these RB pipes are cheap, but when you add $200 for JD cut and re-weld the RHD flats spots in the aluminium section, VTT pipes look and sound more appealing IMO

From what i could read up on, and I asked Rob about this and the end pipes (that attach to the turbos) do have certain 'squash/squish' points to clear things like the wastegate arms etc..
The VTT design looks like it will not deliver these required clearances for RHD's. |

I like the idea of retaining the hard pipe around the turbo area, as I'm mainly thinking long term degradation of the silicon fittings due to radiating heat in that area being so close to the turbos?

Haha, JD might be coming out with his own complete upgrade and no, it won't be another silly cone pipe.
