1M or M3 strut brace?
Ok, I just installed the M3 strut brace on my 335I M-sport and was thinking of adding a brace to my 118I and my wife's 328I M-Sport and then started comparing part numbers. The E90 and the E87 share the same part numbers for the original braces but we know the center mounting bolt has a different angle on each one (there are M3 braces modified to fit the 1er but it is really needed?) The non M cars have a disadvantage of the second cowling piece that covers the motor and also slightly interferes with the bolts of the M3 strut bar causing a very tight fit with continuous pressure on the bar and bolts but the 1M bar keeps the stock style without the center bracket but mounted with the same 100nm center locking bolt. Is this one part going to make such a large difference? I would think that the main difference between the stock one bolt to the tower mounting and the ring type tower mounting would be the most difference as the tower an no longer twist under load and it is only kept aligned with the center bolt. Is my thinking wrong?
If you just want the looks, I think there is no difference between the M3 and 1M bars once installed because of the cowling but the 1m version should not interfere with the cowling, but both would generally have the same effect with the 1M version being a small bit lighter as it does not have the solid center brace. Lets discuss.

To my knowledge all stock bars are aluminum. There is only one part number. It doesn't make any sense at all to have them out of steel since they will be heavy and rust.

Just verified, all three of my cars are steel bars.

I honestly don't know what to tell you! Mine are aluminum. I was not going to be able to work on them if they were steel. I cut them with hand saw and drill them with little cordless drill.
