Trying to read Service Engine Soon Code with INPA-EDIABAS-NCS Expert

I have already successfully used the (above referenced) software - running on an XP laptop - and my K+DCAN USB (INPA Compatible) OBD2 cable with my 2006 530xi to add (i.e., code) a stereo auxiliary port to the entertainment system after I installed one. That was a while ago and now I'm looking to troubleshoot why my 2009 328ix has a Service Engine Soon (SES) light is on (the '09 328ix is an E90, N51 engine, build date is 3/13/2009). From what I have already read, I think that with the software, cable and laptop I already have, I should be able to find out (diagnose) what error code is causing the SES light to go on. I have INPA Loader v 5.0.2; EDIABAS ToolSet32 ver 3.2.7; EDIBAS 6.4.7; NCS Expert 3.1.0. I have all the DATEN files in separate folders but not necessarily loaded into the software (I only did the one job on my '06 530xi (E60). I'm guessing I need a good refresher on how to use this darn software. I've spent hours and hours on this and other forums trying to figure it out. Can someone offer some help?

If you use the BMW Coding Tool and import the E89 DATENs, you should be fine. I'll pm you a link to the DATENs.

Thanks wildcatcrazy for the response and PM link. I'm also looking for some basic "how to" instructions. For example, you said "use the BMW Coding Tool". I have NCSExpert, Tool32 and INPA. Which of these is the BMW Coding tool. Also, how do I import? Appreciate any help or links that will offer guidance.

The Coding Tool is a separate third party software that does coding by reading/manipulating the .TRC file after NCS generates it. It also has the built in capability to import the DATENs to ensure that all files are copied to the correct folders.

I sent you a pm as well.

Thanks. So there's no misunderstanding, I'm looking to use the software to provide the error code(s) and help diagnose why the SES light is on. I get the impression the Coding Tool was used more for changing features like, for example, getting the mirrors to fold with the FOB.

I also responded to your PM.

Right. But this will import the DATENs for you, so there's no issue/question as to where/how files are to be copied.

Service reminders and Error Codes are two different things.
All Service reminders can be reset except brakes by the BC stalk.
If you clear a error code an it comes back you have problem
that needs fixing. Brakes require that wear sensors be replaced
if they have warn to the point they are triggered.

!) Find out what the service code is fix it or reset it.

Both Ista and the Inpa suite can be downloaded from the
Bimmergeeks.net website and some other stuff comes along
with it.
