M235i Tyres

So - Today I got a flat.

Thank's to run flats I didn't get stuck on the top of the Gateway Bridge in Brisbane which is probably one of the worst spots you would want to be stuck at.

The next problem is, apparently Michelin do not stock the tyre's that are on it.

245/35zr18

The best option I have is getting two x Bridgestone Potenza's approx $400 each as I can't get the single Michelin.

I'm awaiting for the BMW dealer to give me a call back to see if they can help the situation, but i'm wondering if anyone has changed the stock tyres on the M235i and if so what did they change them too ?

That's messed up - almost seems like a 'built in obsolescence' marketing ploy.
Make sure you call/e-mail Michelin direct and different dealers.

Got a call back from the dealer and they are saying they aren't run-flats..

After a bit of research the M cars are the only one's that don't come standard with run-flats... so i hope my rim isn't screwed - it's getting towed to the dealer as they seem to be the only place to get a new tyre for $465

Yes, M235i doesn't come with RFTs on the standard 18" wheels in Australia.

Strangely though is that if you order the 19" M Performance wheels, they put RFTs on these!

I've never understood the theory of putting non-RFTs on the standard wheels and RFTs on the M Performance wheels. Just seems a little backward to me. Nonetheless, I enjoy the firmer ride of runflats and the added security. I'd like to change to runflats when these Michelin PSS need replacing.

Anyone know what they use on the MP 19" wheels? Are the P Zero's?

What's the ride like on a 235 with 19's and run flats? Does the adaptive suspension help smooth it out a bit?

Just wondering whether it's worth it, for the added peace of mind, when doing country runs?

The ride on the 19's in RFT are ok, i wouldn't say that is a negative in running RFT's if you are daily driving it.

Hey guys -

I really have no idea about tyre profiles and i need some advice here as i'm up for a tyre change @ 13,000k, yikes!

Any idea why the front and back profiles are different on as stock from the dealer 40ZR18(front), 35ZR18(back)? Should i just go for 35 front and back, or 40 front and back?

What do you have on your cars?

I have Currently have Michelin Super Sports, thinking of changing to either >

- Pirelli PZero
- Dunlop Super Sport SP
- Continental CONTISPORTCONTACT 2

Any advice appreciated.. cheers,

The profile is the ratio of the height compared to the width. So, 40ZR18 means the height is 40% of the width. To keep the same overall diameter of the tyre as it goes wider, the ratio needs to be reduced. 245/35 is therefore equal to 255/30 or even 235/40.

I'd stay with the MPSS, they are the best performance tyre on the market.

What he said. If you change the profile you will change the gearing and likely throw your speedo out. Though not by much. What he said regarding sticking with the tyres too (excuse the pun.....).

Putting aside the aesthetics, how is the ride with the 19" and runflats compared to the standard 18" rims and tyres?

This for sure - I'm nearly on my 4th set of the PSS on various cars they're a great daily tyre. Coming from some other tyres with stiffer sidewalls (e.g RE050A) they can take a bit of getting used to though - but since the PSS is OE fitment you won't notice!
