Shocks, Springs or Bushings/Ball Joints?
Hey Team,
Need some advice. I have done a lot of reading on these forums and tried to find this answer but couldn't...so please help. I have a 2007 328i w 140k miles. The ride currently is a little harsh, especially when I hit any semi large bump of any kind. With winter coming I want to get her riding smooth. So what should be my priority? Should I get Shocks first? Springs? (I think my springs are fine) Or get new bushings/ball joints and all that stuff? What would help the ride the most? Ideally if they are already changing the suspension I would like to maybe just do it all at one time...shocks and ball joints/bushings as well. Here are the links I am looking at...but what should take priority? Shocks or bushings/ball joints? Bilstein full front and rear shocks- 429.00 m.ebay.com/itm/BMW-E90-325i-06-Sedan-Front-Rear-Shock-Strut-Sport-Suspension-KIT-Bilstein-TC-/151461049319?nav=WATCHING_ACTIVE OEM Full front and rear bushing/ball joint and control arms - 578.00 m.ebay.com/itm/FRONT-REAR-CONTROL-ARM-ARMS-BALL-JOINTS-for-BMW-E90-E91-E92-SUSPENSION-KIT-22-/151115085663?nav=WATCHING_ACTIVE Basically 1000 dollars to upgrade the entire setup. Whatya think guys/gals? What should take priority and what will make my car ride the smoothest? Rich

Unless a bushing's leaking or loose or ball joint worn, Koni FSD's all around and M3 rear subframe bushings. If you don't have Sport package, score BMW Performance springs. Dude! Better 'n' new! . Last edited by CALWATERBOY; 10-26-2015 at 06:45 PM.. |

Lets say I want to upgrade all around...I already have 18's on it, up from the stock 16's, I like the stance and don't want to lower it.
You suggest I go with- - Koni FSD shocks - BMW performance springs (do they lower it?) - M3 Subframe and bushings That M3 Subframe and bushings sounds expensive- and is that just for the rear? I can get OEM all new front and rear bushings/ball joints and upper and lower control arms for under 600. How much does that M3 upgrade cost? What exactly would I be getting...I've never heard of swapping the whole subframe. |

Use existing rear subframe; swap wimp stock bushings for M3 - ~$280 + bushing R&R tool rental from HPAutosports. Scroll through THIS to subframe pics. Easy to do w/tool; jack stands. Yep, rear only. |
