New to me 2011 335i - How do you know?
So I bought a very nice 335i in May. It has the Performance Power Kit, M-Sport Suspension, etc. Have really enjoyed owning the car.
Overall I've been very happy with my acquisition. What I'm not 100% happy with is the shifting. A slight depress of the throttle from a stop can launch it. First gear is about useless. There is almost a jump at times as it shifts from first to second. In traffic this is a disaster. I have taken to engaging the DTC to bring down the torque. It works great if you want to romp on the gas. If all you want to do is proceed from a stop without looking like your running the 1/4 mile, it has a real problem. It also down shifts so aggressively that I might as well have put on the brakes. And if I do brake with purpose from somewhere north of 50 MPH, it's as if I've activated a secondary brake system. I don't have access to any other 335i vehicles to compare this to and this is my first BMW. I am looking for ways to tell if the car has been flashed, coded, moded in such a way that would explain some of what I consider to be odd shifting behavior. It doesn't have a JB4 - because I've tried pressing the volume and channel down buttons at the same time. Are there similar ways of checking for other types of modes? I realize in a forum where modes are the goal that my concerns might be unappreciated, but all I'm trying to figure out is "Is it supposed to work like this? Or did someone add something to it before I bought it?" |

First thing you can do and it will be for free is adaption reset. Turn on ignition (press start without brake pedal) and put a pedal to the metal and keep it pressed for 30 s.
If this will not help then probably you have some issues with a gearbox. Unfortuntale these gearboxes are not so strong in 335i. I have e92 and have exactly the same issue. You can flash your tranny using alpina software and see if this will help somehow. I did it and gearbox works much better.

No, press the start button to turn the ignition on, but not the engine. Then press gas pedal to the metal and hold it for 30 seconds. Thats it, start the engine, your tranny adaptions has been resetted.

Jozy - Sorry to say I don't really know. The BMW Vin Decoder sheet says the Transmission is a HECK - it that means anything to you.
It does have the sport mode and paddle shifters? Other than some documentation which I don't have, how would you go about finding out? Cryptomit - I'm unfamiliar with "adaption". I assume what you are indicating is that the vehicle learned and adapted to a drivers habits? Which would tell me the PO stomped on the gas a lot... |

Hold the gas for 30 seconds, pedal all the way down to the floor.. Turn off car completely (hit start, foot still on gas).. Release gas pedal.. Wait about a minute.. Start car (engine on). |

I'm not quite sure if it's a placebo effect or if the reset did the trick, but where I had experienced odd shifting and tendencies to bolt off the line, I can now accelerate smoothly. I am going to give it a week before I claim victory, but I'm feeling good about where its heading. Thank you!
