M-Performance Interior Installation DIY?!
I have M-Performance Shift knob, e-brake, carbon fiber interior pieces and alcantra steering wheel I want to install myself. I remember seeing a thread, but I can't find it anymore. Can someone help me out, thank you.

Just yank up on the knob.. it'll come off with the boot. The e-brake boot unclips from the center console trim piece and the interior pieces should pry off. Your wheel will probably give you the biggest 'fuss' per-se

Thanks nike001. The knob and boot removal seems really sketchy from a company like BMW, but I'll give it a try, thank you. I'll probably pay a shop to install the steering wheel so I don't mess anything up especially dealing with the air bags.

Hey Hemisedan, I haven't had a chance to do it yet. I'm currently deployed and I'll finally be back in a few days to put my hands on my new parts. I'll post pictures in a week.

DIY master list:
http://www.2addicts.com/forums/showthread.php?t=975897 Here's a DIY for the steering wheel (I quickly glossed over the master list and didn't see a DIY for the wheel, but maybe I missed it): http://www.2addicts.com/forums/showthread.php?t=973903 From your list, I've done the shift knob and e-brake this past Saturday, and those were among the easier installs that I did (also did M Perf pedals and kidney grilles, and a non-OEM rear diffuser, mirror caps, and rear spoiler over the weekend). Just take your time releasing the clips on both items and be careful when yanking off the shift knob; it takes quite a bit of force to get it off, and I've heard that people have taken blows to the head when doing so. Getting the clips started on the e-brake was slightly harder than the shift knob; you may find it easier to use a plastic trim tool to get it started.

Thank you so much!!! It helped a lot. I'm considering installing the steering wheel myself now. So far I installed the shift knob and e-brake and it was sooo easy!

Does anyone know how to install the M PERFORMANCE Carbon Fiber Center Console Cover? I looked at the DYI guide for the alcantara trim, but the pictures do not depict the part that I am interested in changing. Any help would be great! Thanks.

Also, for the 8AT shifter itself, there is a thread somewhere I read when I did mine, I will see if I can find it. You just need to pry off the plastic piece with the Park, Reverse, Drive, M/S indicators on it. It is held on by adhesive, but you can just pry it up and pull it off. Then there is a Torx (T8 I think?) screw you need to remove. Just be sure to re-use the white plastic piece from the old assembly on your new shifter trim. |
