Auto Steptronic fix for 400rwk

Auto Steptronic fix for 400rwk

Ok so some of you know my car and some have been plagued with the dreaded
gearbox malfunction gong under high power outputs/the gearbox going into
protection mode

After many weeks of testing and feedback and I'm happy to report its fixed.

Working with and big thanks to

Advan Performance
JD75 aka Justin@advanperformance
Trebila David

There is a fix for our transmission and no rebuild necessary to hold large amounts of power

Now to go down to the track and see what she puts down and do that final
run and get our first Australian 10s 135i

What was the fix? The new torque limit by gear table or just fine-tuning reported torque by the DME?

Wedge Performance also tweak the dme for reported torque I believe. My car is definately shifting smoother now, although I dont have anywhere near the power this 135i is running (I'm at about 270rwkw)

Is it just tweaking torque limits??
P.s, good luck getting a 10! What turbos are you running and do you have some slicks?

so its a software fix, not hardware?

Some of us can't get to Advan but would be real keen to know how it works.

It's a flash for the steptronic, or DME?

It's not just an Alpina flash is it?

The goal for best AT performance at high power levels has always been to run the highest reported torque possible without hitting any torque limits. Since MHD flash, these limits have been able to be raised, helping matters a lot. I'm not sure how this 'fix' would be any different. If it utilised the newly-discovered torque limit by per gear tables, jyamona should get acknowledgement as he's the one that discovered the tables. I certainly hope tuning vendors who work for a profit are making very sizeable donations to jyamona and his table discovery work because the table discovery work he does is a lot more time consuming and boring than doing tunes and ultimately, it's the tuners that get the financial advantage of this work.

This secrecy is what holds our platform back from moving forward. It never used to be like this. Wedge always used to bag out PTF for locking maps and not sharing info and now they do the same. PTF, Wedge, Motiv etc would all know stuff in different ways/areas that the others don't know and if they actually shared their findings, ALL of their tunes would benefit. I always thought trebila wasn't like this but maybe he's keeping a few tricks to himself now as well.

^^This.

Since it's tune related, this is most likely the work of Trebila (David) via a combination of MHD flash, and TCU flash. In saying that, if it's a custom tune that's being done, he has every right to charge for this and not give away the work that's done.

The thread is handy in the sense that you know who to contact to get it done

But there aren't that many 35i's > 350rwkw's though.

If it really is far more than that (Which I still struggle believing that nobody else in the world can do whatever these guys are doing), How is it fair for said tuner(s) to take so much from the community in the form of table discovery performed by people that work off small donations then find a little more helpful info and not give that info back to the community?

I'm sure they can set us straight with the info first hand - JD75 trebila

Not having a go or anything, I just want to learn and encourage collaboration.

It takes money and r&d and lots and lots of hrs of testing and that does not come for free.

But there aren't that many 35i's > 350rwkw's though.
On the note that there aren't many 335i's making 350rwkw+ I think that with the way things are going with development at the moment there are soon to be a lot more people hitting crazy numbers. Exited for the future!

Exactly, if tuners start spending money and start making some back there will be a lot on development in this area if there is a profit in it.

If there is no money, there's no development and we suffer from it.

100%... Advan has about 10,000 unpaid Dyno pulls all in the name of R&D.
We have done this for over 30 years and We are still learning its all about testing, testing and more testing.

Sorry if we don't give it all away for free its just not possible, we are a private company and this time comes at a cost to my pocket.

But in saying that we do enjoy seeing the faces of customers when they get back from a road test

And we don't expect anything for free, at the end of the day you have mouths to feed at home just like us. As enthusiasts, we should be fronting money for r&d. I think we should set up some sort of crowd funding to develop some local turbos.

+1 Now that's an Idea

Sick of these guys in the states getting our hard earned money and if something goes wrong we get stuck with the bills for sending stuff back and labour charges.
