CPO question
Hello,
Im trying to help a friend out, She bought a CPO just over a year ago. Recently she had a few issues with her fog lights. She went to BMW for the repair. And was told her front bumper is aftermarket and she will be on the hook for the charges. So my question. Can BMW make her pay for the issue, even if the car was sold as a CPO with the bumper at hand? I would think as a cpo all parts would have to be oem at time of certification ? And that BMW would be the one paying for the repair. |

I think the main issue is that CPO doesn't cover electronics / lights / trim. It is basically a powertrain warranty as opposed to a bump-to-bumper new car warranty.

Before my warranty expired, I had electrical, trim covered. My car was sold as a cpo, and all repairs were covered by the standard 50k warranty. |

She needs to read the exact terms of the CPO to find out what it actually covers.

When a car is purchased with less than 4 years/50k miles, the balance of the New Car warranty (bumper to bumper) remains in effect. After 4 years/50k miles, the CPO takes effect and excludes a number of items from coverage.
There ARE electrical items which are INCLUDED in the CPO, including switches and wiring harnesses. The fog lights themselves are not specifically mentioned in the EXclusion list, however any bulbs are never included in CPO. |

As stated by others, CPO and the the original 4 yr / 50k mile warranty are not the same. The CPO warranty covers fewer areas.
To answer your question, if the car does have an aftermarket bumper and fog lights, no CPO would not cover this. However the original warranty wouldn't cover it either. It seems less than totally honest for the dealer not to point out that the bumper was not OEM when she bought it, but they didn't.
