7400 miles 20 days
Decided to drive this year instead off flying from Florida to Seattle, WA in my 328i. This is my annual visit with my folks, who at 89 are both still living in their home without the need for assistance - thank heavens! My longest driving day on the road was 1010 miles to Mt Vernon, IL. My shortest day was from Helena, MT to Sheridan, WY. What a beautiful drive that leg is. The traffic was light and I couldn't believe I zoomed through Atanta around noon with no traffic slowdowns on the way up.
I have always flown before and I took the northern route through South Dakota and Montana. The trees were turning in Kentucky and Tennessee and the fall colors were gorgeous. It's 3256 miles from my garage to theirs. Gas prices for premium ranged from $2.39 to $3.14. I averaged 25.6 mpg for the 7400 miles and the BMW performed flawlessly. My 328i now has 67,000 miles on it and the display panel showed that it barely used any oil at all. If I have any complaints it would be the radio is *&%$ in the BMW, but I took along a lot of CDs. Also, the seat felt a little firm on the way back and I got out more often than going up, so my butt cheek wouldn't fall asleep. I used the WAZE ap for directions, traffic slowdowns and police radar locations. The only close call was a deer on the highway in Montana going up, and a car stopped on I90 at night with a flat tire near Spokane with no lights on. I highly recommend the Waze ap because it alerted me to a car in the roadway and radar by Valdosta. These realy are great highway cars and I enjoyed it so much I may do it again next year. I did the entire run on a new set of Michelin Pilot Sport A/S 3s and the more I drive on them the more I love them. No more run flats ever for me! BMWs are great road cars and in the mountains at night in the rain with the Xenon lights on, it really stood out with it's handling and sure footedness. |

Since waze depends on Inputs from users

did you get much info in the sparsely populated area's. I use it and have to agree its the best traffic info app going. |

Not much input on waze in South Dakota and Wyoming. Lots of good input the rest of the trip, surprisingly lots of police tips in Montana on waze where you can find yourself being routinely passed cruising at 85, but there were lots of semis in the afternoon that day. I think truckers use waze a lot.

Nothing beats driving over the Snoqualmie Pass and entering into the PNW after a long drive. I've made the drive to the Seattle/Whidbey Island area many times and my route takes me through Colorado/Utah/Idaho/Oregon and then into WA...right at 2000 miles each way. I haven't made this trip in a bimmer yet but when I do it will be in an F10 M-Sport. I've driven my E90 through the mountains in Colorado and it's a dream in the corners. Every BMW I've driven on the highway seems to hit a sweet spot around 85mph. Too bad that's not a legal speed limit anywhere that I know of.

Drove from Maryland to Great Lakes, I'll and back a few weeks ago for my son's Naval Graduation. Used Waze the entire time, great app for alerting you to police, traffic, and construction.
