Waterpump (and T-stat) question

Hi guys.
My WP bit the dust, so I changed it together with the T-stat. Car had roughly 58K miles when this happened.
The new WP is different from the old one (solid fastening holes vs. rubber grommet lined holes). New pump is Continental.

Any experience with this new type WP? Will it last longer than the old one, or are they the same, just different p/n as per realoem?

The codes pointed to the WP prior to erasing them (loud fan). Should I keep the T-stat for just in case, or is that one also garbage?

Thanks

The new t-stat is unlikely to fail. I guess you could keep it, it's not bad or anything - but it's not too likely you would have to use it, and even if you did, are you going to want to put a used one back in after all that work?

Both my old pump (original OEM) and new pump (OEM) had solid mounts.

As for the thermostat, pitch it. It isn't that expensive of an item and do you really want to install a thermostat with that many miles. ONLY reason I would keep it would be to install on a car that had one failed that I was in the process of selling.

New water pump will no longer have the rubber bushings. It will work and possibly last longer. That's the purpose of an updated part. If you are doing the job for water pump replacement just replace the t-stat, you are already there. Why dump coolant twice instead of one time and move on.

Thanks guys. I did replace both parts, feeling guilty to throw out a perfectly working part (T-stat). How long does the T-stat usually holds up? And how long the upgraded WP?
