"I drive" computer issues? (06 E90 330i)

Thought my on board monitor was going out. Screen going black then flashing white for a couple seconds. Then the start up screen that says BMW started coming on at start up and would stay on for a couple seconds and go black. Several people told me it was my display. So, I searched and found a used working display. Plugged it in and the exact same thing I described above starting happening. (New monitor never worked)

Most of the time, it works fine in the morning but when I stop to get my coffee after about a 20 minute drive, I get back in the car and it doesn't work and usually doesn't work the rest of the day. Just flashes logo on and off.

Someone else told me that it could be the "i drive" module/computer. Does that sound like a symptom of the module going out?

Also, if it's the module, is it plug and play or does it need to be coded?

Sorry for the long post

Thanks

Hows your battery ?

Hows your battery ?
If the battery is low the ibs system can start turning stuff
off . If you are on the original you are overdue for a new one.

Try putting a full charge on the battery and see if the situation improves for awhile.

Your head unit (HU) is toasted. Literally. When it gets warm after a short drive it won't boot anymore, right? It's a known problem the early iDrive HUs. My understanding they develop microcracks in motherboard that expand on warm up.
You need a new HU, or better yet upgrade to CIC.
The new HU need to be coded/FSCs uploaded most of the time so it works properly

Just buy a new CCC unit, and follow the replacement plan on ISTA. The FSC code for voice control (if you have it) will be copied over.

Forgive my ignorance but what is CIC? Easy swap? Approx ballpark cost? Difference between my original i drive and CIC?

Thanks

idrive/nav subforum FYI

http://www.e90post.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=122
The version of the idrive beyond what you have is hard disk rather
than dvd based. Also the latest version is the NBT which is beyond that with
a lot of internet stuff and streaming bluetooth music built in.

http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1009509
but if you are going to do that you might as well do NBT.

There are many sub forums here for more specific info
