Help to program CA fob

Alright I searched and searched and tried and tried with no luck. Hoping someone else had maybe the same problem and was able to find a solution before I pay my stealership.

Just got a new f30 with comfort access. Dealer sent me(I bought it out of town) a brand new spare fob. It has been cut to my car already. So Im trying to program it using the only instructions I saw online. The way everyone says to do it(hold fob to column, start car) does not work.

Basically if I have both fobs in the car and put the old one up to the spot on the column it doesn't recognize it at all. But if I leave the original fob inside the house and I have just the new one, I can get the console to pop up and say place fob on steering column. But I can not get it say this if the other one is in distance. So I literally had my wife run me the original key to try and start the car once that pops up, and on out of about 20 tries I got it to pop up on the idrive saying name the profile, but then it went away within a second and it didn't program the key.

Any secrets???

I got this when I lost one of the keys and ordered a spare one. After receiving the third (found the lost one again) I would code them as back-backup and that wont work, caused by BMW policy to leave at least only 2 keys at once active.
But that seems not to be your problem, you have one key and want one more to work, in total 2, right?

Correct. So just two. Do you have to erase a key somehow? Maybe it still thinks the lost one is active??

Yes, the dealer said, that a maximum amount of 2 keys could be active at the same time. So if I want another key to work, I had to let disable one of them before the other can get to work. But in total are only two keys active and the third one is a still spare.

***update***

So stopped by the dealer and he did it in 30 seconds. Basically procedure involved nothing I read online. He wanted original key at least 20 yards away. Took the new key inside the car and said he had to do a 3 button hold procedure to program it.

I see, but this is only valid until you got not more than in total 2 keys active.
Glad to read that you'd solved your problem.

Yea he didn't say anything about deactivating the old one.

And he didn't tell me the three when I asked. Just replied it's complicated process.
