Which Streaming Service (UK) - Spotify or Apple Music
Well since I have my Sonos set up and NAS (with ITunes) all talking to each other and both IPads sorted, it's time to think about a music streaming service.
This will be pretty much just for in the house on Sonos, I either listen to stuff on USB or radio while in the car. So both have free trials going at the moment. Sonos will 'switch on' Apple Music from about the 15th December. So any pro's or Con's with them? NOTE: NOT USING TIDAL SO DONT MENTION. |

just try both one and see which you prefer. I like how with spotify you can subscribe to other peoples' playlists and when they add music it'll show up automatically. Also they have lots of playlists created for different situations. So almost whatever you search for, there will be a playlist for it.
In terms of just finding your own stuff to play, both seem to have similar catalogues, but I found apple music quite frustrating to use. Also if you have your own music ripped to itunes, it doesn't integrate as neatly into apple music as you'd think it would. I preferred having spotify + itunes for my own music. I was very disappointed with apple music. But you may like it so definitely try both. Also worth checking out other services like Deezer or soundcloud |

Apple music is very good for music discovery and I find the playlists very good. It is (was) very buggy when I used it over summer which put me off and I moved back to Spotify. That being said 6 accounts for £15 on Apple Music has swayed me and I'll be getting the family pack in the next few weeks.

Trying Napster for free for 3 months atm. Seems to work pretty well on Sonos so far & not too bad in the car.
Deezer is better in the car i think but only been a week so will see. |

I get spotify free with my Times digital pack. Was a times reader anyway so made total sense to me. Worth checking to see if it's still on (unless you are a guardian reader!!)

Apple music wins it for me. The phone just works with my F34 without having to open the "Connected" app or the Spotify app. Try "siri, play beats 1" which is free anyway but you can see how it works with the car.
Major differences with the catalogue of available music too, the Apple music has everything you can possibly want - Spotify has a lot too and much more than Deezer or Amazon. Finally the price, they all cost sort of the same but Apple music family pack is a great price and you can share with more people in the home. Spotify is not bad if you get it through your phone contract or the times (students pay 50%) but if you pay full price, go for Apple Music. |

Spotify is a bit pricey when more than 1 person. No plans to use it with an iPhone or in fact in the car. |

You can get 3 months Spotifty Premium for 99p at the moment, well worth it to try it out properly. If you've already had a trial you may need to register another account. Amazon catalogue is really poor and I hardly ever use it even though I have Prime.

If you use a tablet, then Spotify free lets you play specific tracks like the web version - the only limitation is ads and a limited number of skips per hour (5 I think). For me that is enough, but I only listen at home at the moment. If I wanted to listen occasionally in the car I could just bring my iPad and use my phone as a hotspot. Or even buy a cheap android tablet just for that - less than the price of a years subscription.

Spotify app is better, easier to use.
Apple music works miles better in car. (The winning point for me) Miss the thumps up (liked from radio) on spotify, needs adding to AM. Apple music on Sonos from 15th Dec. http://www.sonos.com/en-gb/apple-music-on-sonos?r=1 Apple music for me. |

Their playlists are not so bad if you are open to just have something to playing in the background... Things can only get better, you subscribe to amazon for the same/next day delivery and video really. |
