Say you likely have the opportunity to pick up a M4 GTS, in that range what else are you likely to consider.

My sweet spot was much less ($75k) range, but I could stretch for the GTS. The problem is I am now looking at alternatives in that range $100-$125k and there are a LOT of attractive options that might even be better than the GTS.

I understand the limited run, etc. But I am having a hard time justifying the premium over a nicely optioned M4 or new/used Porsche.

What do you all think? I know the design is polarizing, but appearance aside, what are the thoughts about it strictly from a performance argument.

Bummer that it's DCT only, anything else would be a manual for sure for me.

Off the top of my head there are now:
- brand new 991 Carrera S
- MB AMG GT
-brand new Jaguar F-Type
- brand new m6 coupe
- lightly used 997 turbo or gt3

I'd say the most compelling alternatives, to me, would be an AMG GT-S or GT3

I'd do whatever I can to get into a GT3, if not possible I'd probably go with the new R8 V10(the base model with 540hp) or I'd wait for the next 991.2 GTS, the Nismo GT-R is also a good option if you are looking for something to track.

Scrap the F-Type off that list... Interior is just horrendous...

I personally am a fan of the AMG GT S...

It appears a well looked after (albeit almost 10 y/o) Gallardo is around $100k. That is a tough call.

I'd get the M6GC and add a couple small modifications.

I understand that...No one said it had to be a similar vehicle.

But for the price of a new M4 GTS, you could be driving a super car. Five year old Gallardo LP550-2's and 8 year old Ferrari F430's with under 10k miles are about $135-140k.

Since it
-is a track car
-is priced insanely high
-is based on a platform not built from the ground up as a track car

I would go with a Porsche. I really like the Cayman.

So for me it would be a Cayman and I'd save a ton of cash and love my ride more than any other track car I could have purchased otherwise (including at a higher price point).

Anybody like the 2017 575HP GT-R on paper?
Has Bose Active Noise cancellation to reduce cabin noise and supposably more compliant suspension making it a better dd. Randy Pobst preferred the current Nismo to the 1st gen R8 on the track.

Driving a 2015 991, 3.4L now as my dd. Test drove a new Cal.T with 550HP last week. Not only did the extra power make the 991 feel fatigued, the magnetic dampers combined with whatever else they did with the suspension had much crisper turn in, yet it felt as comfortable to sit in as I imagined a Bentley would be in if not driving aggressively. Plus very roomy! If I could afford the depreciation, I would consider it the perfect car as a daily driver and on the track, blending luxury with performance. They always say you can pick 2 or the 3 things (Price, Performance or Cost). I am therefore trying to determine what would be the best car for me, now believing that compared to my new standard, the 991 seems not very comfortable and is stressed when asked to perform. Not sure how comfortable the GTS or the GT-R will be. I know the performance of both will be exceptional, but I do not know anything about the ride quality as a dd. As far as cost, the depreciation of the GT-R driven on a regular basis is known, the GTS nobody knows.
