The 5 series just got a bit dated.

That brown is hideous, bit poo coloured.
A lot depends on how it drives. Mercedes have obviously been raiding Santas LED parts bin. MFD's are great as long as they work, historically they can be a nightmare. Other than that looks good. With the price for 'HD' panels dropping, there will become a common sight in cars. |

My comments were purely based on the interior tech/design and not colour combo..

My Dad said something similar when the 8 track player came out

personally that is ugly as anything, although digital displays replacing analogue ones are inevitable I guess. First they'll pitch them as luxury items like they are now, but they'll trickle down soon enough. Probably doesn't cost them much at all to add in, and it'll simplify production - one binnacle will work for all left hand drive with no need to change the dials for mph/kmh or any written labels - everything will be in software. Likewise it probably means fewer linkages so the wiring loom will be cheaper and simpler.
I bet the difference in cost is almost nothing in terms of manufacturing. |

At first glance it looks flash and tech laden, but then for me it appears fussy and over designed with too many elements/things going on.
I don't like digital instruments and prefer analogue, the screen just looks like it has been stuck into the dash as well (clearly the look they are going for) but I would prefer it to be set into the dash, although not as bad as the c-class. I still prefer BMW's new interior design theme showcased in the new 7 series which should/will make it's way into the new 5 next year.

Also once an API has been developed its just a matter of tweaking it for different models. Removal of wiring to analogue and mechanical parts makes build easier, it reduces the number of actual looms. There is nothing to prevent a full digital dash and touch panel for start, lights etc. It is the way things are heading, even simpler in a small hatch as less space to fill with a panel. |

That's what I thought its dated as there's a new model coming out, thought this was going to be a G20 or G30 spy shot.
I must show this with glee to the Father in Law who has just got a 'great deal' on a new E Class. I told it would be old in 6 months!!!

I don't like it, it's too fussy, and the white steering wheel is a crap idea, will look terrible after a couple of thousand miles!
And then there's that naff Comand system! |

With a GL350 on order, I know what you mean about Command, it's certainly not as intuitive as iDrive, which I think is probably one of the best systems out there in Pro Nav form.
Good to see the Hand 'foot' brake is gone. Incidentally.....my Merc GL has the auto shifter as a stalk on the RHS of the steering wheel.....I guess because it's made in Alabama....so not only have I got to get used to the bloody foot 'hand' brake thing, but a bloody stick shift aswell......I forecast lots of cursing initially......yes yes first world problems I know |

It's too fussy for my tastes and the colour scheme is ghastly but MB do make nice interiors - however, it's the only thing they do well. In every other respect, a BMW is a better car - and I should know as I've owned several of both

They probably showed white as it'd be easier to film than black! The seats will be excellent no doubt (I liked the old C63 seats).
Would love to see this interior in person but it'd be difficult for me to actually buy/lease a Merc. Just not interested by the shape of the cars the current generation have been designed on (sloping arse-lid).

Sounds like everyone is watching just the first few mins. There are other (inc AMG Black) interiors shown later.
Classy and great for a Taxi in Tenerife in about 10 years but Merc E not for me ever I hope.

I like it, time for something new something different. Not sure if I would buy one though.
Never liked the stalk gear stick style. I like my stick in the middle be it manual or automatic. The 5 Series will have to step up their interior.

The steering wheel looks nice and thick, the way it should be, everything else looks like an old mans car
