BMS stage 1 - engine sputtering

i've been running a bms stage 1 for about 6 months now and over the past few weeks the car seems low on power and under hard acceleration i get some sputtering. the car is a 6 spd 228i sport. anyone had similar issues? not sure if the stage 1 is causing the issue or something else. i haven't unplugged it yet to see if the car runs any differently.

thanks...

How old are your spark plugs? Are you getting any codes?

If the spark plugs are old, they start having problems keeping up with the extra boost. Replacing them with new spark plugs fixes this issue, it is very common by the way

First time I hear this issue and having to change plugs on stage1 tunes.

My N20 came with 11,000 miles and I Drove 14,000+ miles on RaceChip Ultimate on stock plugs before upgrading to ECU Flash & then another 1,000 miles before upgrading to S55 plugs.

I ran RC at stock setting (equivalent to BMS Stage1 boost) 19, 20, 21 and up to 22 with no sputtering.

This is only common with JB4 or ECU Flash since they are tuned higher than stage1 can be be more aggressive for the engine.

This has nothing to do with with what tune you use and is not even car specific.

More boost = more pressure on the spark plugs = more likely to start misfiring if they are old.

The higher the boost the earlier the issue shows up, that being said eventually it will start misfiring even on stock boost

Plugs are original, the car has just over 30,000 kilometers. I don't know if I'm getting any codes. How do I check?

What plugs do you recommenced? Sounds like a pretty easy fix.

Thanks,

-jb

You can get a cheap OBD reader to check the codes or take it to a mechanic.
If it turns out to be your plugs, just replace them with OE Bosch plugs

He'll be able to explain what his sputtering is, so I'm not sure if its the same that some of us N20 have only seen on Stage2 tunes.
But I thought he was prob relating to hesitation
