If anyone is unsure here's my take on the Great Alpine Road:
Best stretch of road I have ever driven in Victoria. I have not driven it in my BMW yet, I drove it in my old Audi B5 A4 quattro. Long sweeping high speed corners, hardly any traffic when I went during snow season. Decent visibility during the day, 100kph speed limit for most of the stretch. Plenty of space and has many opportunities for overtaking slow cars. Great for accommodating a drive day convoy

Here is my thinking:
Arrive in Bairnsdale on the Saturday evening at around 7-8pm. Will probably work best if we just meet there so won't take up all of people's Saturday. I'll elect to go for a cabin, camping is a lot of extra preparation and have no idea what the weather will be like. Checkout and breakfast for a ~8am start on the Great alpine road. Not sure on the stop off points yet, anyone got any ideas? You guys got nothing on my camo walkie talkies!:

On the topic of E85 stations, the United in Kingsway, Melbourne, has now dropped E85. I had to drive out to the fkn west gate service centre.

Great alpine road is so remote, I think 98 is sometimes hard to come by let alone E85 lol. I think the closest petrol station to bairnsdale with E85 is the United in Sale.
A few Jerry cans full of E85 in your boot is probably your best best if you really want to run an ethanol map.
