Okay so when I bought my car new about two years ago I had Opticoat professionally done. I didn't think the product was that great because the next day I saw some swirl marks, and later I saw more swirl marks (turns out that this was likely the result of poor paint correction prior to the application).
Well two years on and I have to say that this stuff really works. After a half-fast wash this car shines like it just came out of the showroom. I have never waxed this car, not once. In fact I am done with waxing forever. Opticoat, and Optimum No-Rinse (a fantastic product), I now swear by them.

Hi, I have a '13 M5 and would like to put this on. Can it be done on a car that's not brand new?

Yes, it can. But you typically want a full detail / paint correction done *then* do Opticoat on the vehicle.

A lot of detailers won't do it without doing paint correction / full paint detail first.

DetailersDomain did my new 15 m5. They polished it and then put opticoat and clear protection on the front end. You'll need a full paint correction before they put opticoat on your car.

The paint correction is very important, but at the end, up to you to decide.

Without the prep work, any imperfections and curable flaws will be covered and protected by the clear protection.

I had a local shop do a full correction and Ceramic Pro treatment on my cars.

I have one car with Opti and one car with Modesta, both were applied by the same detailer. The difference is very noticeable. Modesta takes the win. The car with Opti is showing more swirls and looks less wet then it did 2 years ago. The modesta car looks brand new with a thick glass look. Note that modesta is a glass coat and Opti is a thinner ceramic coating, so the look should be a bit diff. I hate to plug the product because the US Modesta distributors are a pair of .... less than nice guys. I have a feeling that most good glass coats would provide a similar look.

What Opti coat did you do? They have the Opticoat Pro Plus that gives that wet shine look now. Similar to look of Optigloss coat, but 5 year warranty.

I guess they had to release it to fix the "pro" version.
