A few projects today

I spent some time moving things over from my 328i to the X1. I changed the fog lights to a different temp color to match the led, I swapped the turn signal bulbs for chrome ones, installed the BMW projector door courtesy lights and installed the lighted door sills. I was glad to find that every thing from the 3 series was compatible with my new car. I'll try to post some pics.

Does anyone know why I can only post one pic at a time? I have resized all of them but it only allows one. 😡

Really nice mods! What kind of bulb did you use for the fog light? Matches perfectly with the LEDs!! If able post pics of the turning signals to show us the difference.

I took pictures of the turn signals lit not there was no percievable difference. It does certainly get rid of that egg told look. Fog lights bulbs are h8 bulbs bought on EBay. I forgot the temp but will take a pic of the box.

Here is the bulbs I got on EBay. They are 7500k in temperature which is important to get the right color match.

Wow that's fantastic!! What did you need to buy to get that BMW logo light? My wife wants that too. Is it hard to install? The fog light looks so much better colour matches! Well done

I bought mine on eBay. The ones for the f30 (3 series) fit the X1. It is a tight fit but pop right in. All you have to do is take a flat blade and pry one side of the light on the underside of the door card. Ones you gently pry it out, slide out the other side and press the release clip to unplug them. Plug in the new one (be sure to check for orientation) and then pop in the new ones. Very easy swap.

Cool. Illuminated door sills? Where did you buy those, and are they easy to install?

I promise I do not work for EBay, but the answer is EBay. They are easy to install. Just 4 plastic pegs that plug into 4 holes in the body. They use two coin size batteries for power and a magnet on the door turns them off when the door closes. They turn off automatically in about 15 seconds if you leave the door open. These are oem from BMW and are apparently the same one used on several other BMW models.

OEM Illuminated door sills ordered!! (from
eBay haha). Have also looked into the Door Projectors - the BMW OEM ones are like 6x more expensive than 3rd party ones, so it's tempting to get the Chinese version but I read that some fade after a few months from the film getting too hot (?). Are your logo lights OEM as well? And are there lights on each of the doors (4 in total)? Still waiting for my car to arrive.

I bought my aftermarket projectors before BMW offered them and have had them in my 328i for about 1.5 years without an issue. There is a light on the bottom of each door so you can do 4 lights.

Just ordered the fog lights.

Is the bulb replacement a quick easy job? I have had a few cars where the removal of a ton of exterior trim was necessary for a fog light bulb replacement. Thanks in advance.

I like the fogs upgrade. The logo puddle lights is a bit much.

Thanks for that. The aftermarket one sounds alright then. Yours looks really nice.

I want to know too.... How difficult is it to replace those fog light bulbs? BMW should have those as OEM if you ask me.

I had the same ones in my 3-series and they provided the same amount of light. The bulbs were much easier to change than in my 3 series. The manual tells you how to change them but you pull the whole fog light assembly out to swap the bulb. There is metal clip at the top you depress with a screw driver to release them. Then just press them back in tell the clip clicks back in.

I really like these brighter fog lights to suit main lights but aren't those original more yellow lights better for fog than the brighter ones?
Their pupose is to give you better visibility in fog, isn't it?

Are the lighted door sills also matching the rear doors?
Is the license plate illumination with white leds?

Driving lights and fog lights are two very different things. These are driving lights.

There is a small sill on the rear doors but BMW doesn't offer a set of lighted door sills for the rear doors.

The license plate lights are led.

Replaced mine today with BMW Genuine/OSRAM Cool Blue Intense. It's more white than blue. Says 4000k on the BMW box, but OSRAM website claims it's "up to 4300K" which is still MOT compliant here in the UK. They really don't like blue tints (over 5000K).
