First oil change on 335i
So, I have done the first 5000km oil change for my 335.
Everything went well, used the Liqi Moly engine flush & engine protection additive with the new oil. also cleaned both vanos, and change the stock PCV valve to RB PCV valve. **engine oil was very dark, I guess its due to the engine flush. Issues - some oil on the plastic pipe behind the pcv valve (circled on the photo), i am assuming the pipe is cracked? anyone knows if there is any upgrade for this plastic pipe? - found a little crack around the oil filter housing (circled on the photo), is it really a crack or normal? should i replace the housing? and what might be the cause to the crack? - dealership replaced the oil filter housing gasket for me when i bought the car, however, i found that there is some oil leak underneath the oil filter housing. i am wondering if it is the debris from the past or still leaking? *what could also be faulty if there is a oil filter housing is leaking? the belt underneath the housing looks ok. Thanks for any advice. |

That rear pipe that appears to be seeping can be replaced if you buy an aftermarket catch can (BMS or BMR etc). Replaces stock crap plastic pipe with thick rubber hose.
With the oil filter housing, degrease & hose off the oil filter housing, drive the car for a couple days and see if it has started leaking again.

How did you find the RB PCV install?
Hard/easy/so so? Debating in my head whether I can DIY it or not... BMS CC on the otherhand seemed pretty straight forward to install.

I would say it is even easier than doing the oil change as I don't even have to jack the car up and crawl under the car. When I unclipped the check valve pipe, since the locking mechanism is not working properly, the square clip on the check valve pipe (not sure if this is the right terminology) is cracked and I can disconnected it very easily. But putting the valve in was a bit hard, I used the cap to push it in instead. As for the cap, I don't know if you know what I mean but I struggled to screw the cap in since it never got balance (one side going in but the other side was still not in) when I tried to screw it in. I ended up didn't bother and kept screwing it in and it just eventually got in perfectly. Now I think I will need to buy a oil catch can. |

Also, the square clip on the check valve plastic pipe is cracked/broken, I can simply pull it out without doing anything, should I replace it as well? On my previous photo, you may see it as well. The top of the square clip is cracked/broken. So it's very easy for me to disconnect it when I did the rb pcv valve upgrade. |

Are you saying your brand new 335i, which presumably no one has touched since factory, has cracked clips?
Was working on my 1M today and noticed a little oil seep around the rear PCV hose where it comes out of the cam cover. Very minor, but I expect at least a little as they typically use those mass produced push fit style connectors. Audi/VW are the same. It's no big deal, but if it's an actual leak on yours that isn't good. |

I am thinking if I need to replace that clip to properly secure the pipe now... |

Or you could repair it properly and just replace the part:

With the OCC, I saw that the engine plastic cover has to be trimmed to give space for the OCC pipe, anyone got around this without the trimming? |

I'm reading a few threads on the US forums that a couple of yanks got around without trimming anything but the catch can and piping was like wedged there basically.
Also what oil did you use? |

Should try the dealer for oil filter, they were about $26 each which was around 1/2 of what repco wanted for the generic Reyco branded ones.

Anyone done a filter filtration comparison on this platform? Ryco usually are pretty shit, don't filter much under about 40 microns. Dealer stuff is often OEM'd by companies like denso, but these are also usually built to a (low) price point.

Yup that's the right part #
Dispose of your oil at your local SCA, or check your local council they will have drop off points (my local council has a big bin like a st Vinnie's bin that you drop your 5l containers into) Also Mann branded filters are the same as the Bmw OEM filters (the OEM filters are Mann filters in Bmw boxes) |
