purchased k can cable with inpa software

Hi just purchased the k can cable with the inpa software from eBay. Is it just as simple as loading the software on the laptop plugging the cable in and I can read codes and do simple coding or do I need to set things up? If I need to set anything up is there anywhere I can get a step by step instruction?
