Question - is it best to part out and go back to stock?
For guys that have FBO, is it worth taking off the Intercooler, exhaust, down-pipes wheels and other bolt ons before listing the car for sale?
Just wondering if the labour cost is justified, especially for the DP's and IC. I have: Catless AR Downpipes Helix Stepped Intercooler IPE Exhaust (custom modified to suit a convertible) Genuine M3 wheels Black grill (might leave that one on) Black folding mirrors (never got around to fitting the folding mirrors, but still have the mirrors - but for now I have just the black mirror caps on my white car). |

Part it out, you'll never get the money back in the resale. Mods actually put people a lot of people off (Not me though I bought mine modified).
Intercooler is pretty easy to remove. Exhaust, easy to remove Grill, easy to remove Wheels easy to remove Downpipes are probably not worth it unless you are removing them yourself. I think its around 450-700 of labour to get them off. If you leave them on without a tune you'll throw cat inefficiency codes though.

How do peeps get past the road worthy selling with mods installed? What I mean is if you buy a modded car how do you get it registered?

Some mods make it past roadworthy if the mods are hard to detect. A certain alpine white e82 I know of made it through roadworthy with downpipes fitted.
Otherwise sometimes you see people on the forums asking to borrow stock parts to make it though roadworthy.

Get a quote on the uninstall first, if it's the same shop that you got it all installed by, chances are they'll look after you on the uninstall process. (Not for free, but better than charging their original install price).
Then weigh that up against what you believe you will regain from the sale of the items. |

I thought about this and it seemed to me the secondhand resale value of some of the parts would equal the value of paying to have them removed and the old stock parts put back on if you still have them.
But I agree sometimes easier to sell a stock car than a modded car. |
