Looking at doing the bottom end with forge rods and pistons, lsd and cpe port injection. The intake scoops are just there to increase airflow under the hood.

I don't have an LSD yet, and it's been completely fine... So far..

Have a read of this, which just happens to be about my dream car, that has an open diff.. Yes and $2M+ car with an open diff!!

Someone just needs to work out our DME... They've already worked out how to code out certain features and functions of our e-diff.

Quote:

I've been watching Chris Harris' review of some of the top McLarens. They are brilliant. What's incredible is that these guys have ditched the mechanical LSD in favour of the eDiff. Something I'd learned to hate. I have been pricing up LSDs for my 335i for a good while now and if it was cheaper I'd have it already.

The thing is I'm now convinced that the eDiff is superior and the way of the future.

Have a read of this:

What we need first is a genius to modify the DSC program on 335i cars so that instead of just applying the brakes when the car goes beyond the limits of cornering etc, that it actively applies the brakes to particular wheels during all speedy cornering to get the car around faster and better moderate power.

Then we can save spending money on diffs, save the added weight and use that money for better suspension etc!

Pulling engine out this week and getting bottom end done. Ross Race forge pistons and getting the head refreshed. Car will be out of action now. Had a problem with cylinder 5 with the rings gone bad and leaking oil down in the chamber onto spark plug so blowing smoke. did leak down test and compression test but everything is fine. Replaced valve stem seals. Check valve guide which were fine. PCV system is all fine. Replaced valve lifters both intake and exhaust aswell and valve gasket. Turbos are brand new and all the lines to them. Thought I would spread some light in regards to threads about smoking issues for future reference.

Wow, major surgery happening there!

Were you getting any codes? Other than your smoking problem, what makes you think that going down this road will resolve that?

No codes or lose of power. It's the only thing it can be as we believe the secondary ring is stuffed which wouldn't show in any test and we have pretty much ripped the car apart top to bottom before taking the head off. Bummer I know..

HAHAHA... My bad... Well The head is coming off tomorrow so I will take some photos to outline the build and any issues I have. I am excited to get the pistons in.. Least I will now know the bottom end will be strong enough for anything I do after. If I had my choice again I would of spent the money on the bottom end first and added from there.

Heres My Build Story.....

Bought the car last year in March for $25k cash which is a 2006 335i stock standard car with 152,000km on the clock with all services maintained fro a doctor in Brisbane. The paint work was pretty good and all panels when straight with no dents. The bonnet had some marks but I was cool with that. Inside was pretty tidy except the backseat centre console and the power window switches where the coating was starting to peel off.

First thing I did was to get an oil change, new spark plugs and coolant change done. About a month later bought the following:

- CPE Charge pipe with Trial BOV
- T20Map
- Stage 2 LPFP
- BMS OCC
- AFE Sccops
- AMS Intercooler ($1200)
- JB4 ($700)
- RB PCV Valve ($50)
- AFE DCI ($600)
- AR Design Cattless 3" DP ($1100)
- BMS Meth Kit ($700) Dual CM7 Nozzles
- Waterpump
- Thermostat
- O2 sensors x 4 (walkers) - Shit dont get them
- Akabarno ceramic pads with new break indicators

At this stage I was running Stock Turbos and after these mods the dreaded wastegate rattle started. Decided to take the plunge and get new turbos. I was researching like no tomorrow to decided who to go with. I spoke to Rob from RB and decided to go with his product and ordered all options (billet wheels, thrust and clipping). It took nearly 8 weeks later before I received the turbos which sort of annoyed me but hey I got them.

My car took a week to get them installed. The worse thing was when I get a call and the mechanic said that my sump has a crack in it. The original place I took to get the dps installed had put a lever on the sump to get the steering rack back in and cracked it so $1500 later i got a new sump from BMW install.

Once I picked the car up it was a totally different machine. So much spool and power. The first thing I noticed though was a slight tinny ticking sound which was similar to a wastegate rattle. Took back into the shop a couple of times and they could find the rattle. Anyway I will get back to this sound later...lol...

Put the car on the dyno and pulled 430rwhp on map 7 with Terry's e85 flash running meth and 50:50 e85. Was pretty happy since I didn't have custom tune.

Contact Trebila and we started on a custom tune together. Anyone reading this and has a jb4 this guys is the best at what he does so get incontact with him. We started to max out everything and was only 4 days out when I was driving normally to lunch and I heard a pop and then noticed smoke coming out the back. I shit myself but the funny thing is I still had the power but on the safe side i got it toed back to the shop.

- RB Turbos ($6500)
- Sump Gasket

The mechanic did some checks and realised that the rear turbo had movement. His words the "Turbine is like a sloppy sock in there". Now remember that sould before from day one..... That what was ticking... Contacted Rob from RB and he said get them off and send them straight back as I had only 1200km on them. So I got them off and sent them back. I at this stage saw RB was doing a group buy on the new release of there inlets so I decided to buy them thinking they would be deliver in 3 to 4 weeks. Well yet again 2.5 months later after my install I get them in the mail.

It was going to take forever to get the turbos back so I spoke to Justin from Advan one night and took the plunge and bought yet another set of Pure Stage 2+ and he convinced me to get the TFT inlet system RHD kit since my RB inlets had not arrived so I could continue with the install. I also got the remus race exhaust muffles with quad tips and got the guys to do a twin stainless custom exhaust with 200 cel high flow catts.

- RB Inlets ($550)
- Pure Stage 2+ ($7500)
- TFT Inlets ($2000)
- Injectors Index 12 x 6 ($1000)
- Remus exhuast muffles ($2100)
- Custom Stainless exhaust with 200 Cels ($3000)
- HPFP ($400)
- oil line and coolant hoses
- belt and pullyes new
- transmission filter and oil (not cheap)
- Coils (Bosch)
- O2 senors x 4 (BMW)
- All gaskets for oil housing etc

Oh Before it went to the mechanic, bought M3 front bar, M3 Rear bumper carbon fiber front lip and got bonnet, roof and bars stripped back to metal and respayed for $2100 and even got a loan car while it was getting done. lol

Now my car once picking it up from the mechanic said valve seals needs to be done cause there is a bit of smoke so come back after New Year and get it sorted. My car sat at this shop getting all the work done for nearly 8 weeks prior to getting the Pures done.

When I started to tune it again with Trebial the smoke got worse and worse. The power was huge but the bloody thing was chewing a litre of oil a day. My friend recommended me to another place to take my car who have been fantastic. They did a leak down and compression test and found nothing. Changed the valve seals and while they were their got them to replace all the valve lifters as a couple were on there way out with a ticking noise. My mechanic noticed oil on the spark plug in cylinder 5 which he was concerned about. thought it might the stem seals but once he put everything back together it was still smoking.

After more investigation the rings on the pistons are stuffed so the head has come off and I have ordered forge pistons and rods from Pure Performance in Melbourne.

- Valve Steam seals ($200)
- Valve Lifters ($849)
- Forge Pistons ($1200)
- Forge Conrods ($1200)

If I had my choice from day one again I would have done all forge straight up, then turbos etc after.

Waiting from pistons and rods to be produced which is 2-4 weeks away then we should be back in action.

Total Labour ($10,500 roughly but probably more lol)

Wish list to come:

- CPE Port Injection
- Wavtac LSD
- LPFP Stage 3
