Reverse engineering an ECU

Recently present at 32c3, a well-known hacker and computer security conference, this is a reverse-engineering process of a VW/Bosch ECU in connection with the cheating scandal. Posting here as it may give some insights into low-level RE'ing of a modern ECU...(given the popularity of ECU tunes here...)
