DSC Fault

Hi All,

Got the 3 handbrake, DSC, traction control lights with following codes whilst driving recently:-

- Fault: Pump motor faulty
- Code: 005DF0
- Fault: Pump motor connector damaged
- Code: 005DF1

Initially got the front 2 wheel sensor codes but after clearing them, I've repeatedly gotten the DSC module faulty codes. The errors only come up when i use cruise control and the car has to brake to slow down.

I've searched around but couldn't find a definitive answer, but my assumption is edging towards a faulty DSC module.

Anyone experienced this before? Also anyone know if i can get it rebuilt locally without costing an arm and a leg? Or maybe someone has a spare working module sitting around

I know that Advan have diagnosed and fixed this issue a few times before..

I believe the wheel sensors and DSC system all need to work and communicate together, so it could be your front wheel sensors are faulty being that it also only occurs with CC active, and not doing so when you are in control.

These are all assumptions however.. Hopefully someone who has experienced this before can chime in.

According to the codes its probably the pump thats got a fault. Either the power to the pump/wiring as the codes suggest.

The reason why it only pops up during cruise control with braking is that the pump needs to generate brake pressure to activate the brakes (since you are not generating pressure with your foot). When it tries to activate the pump, it doesn't detect that the pump is drawing power and throws the fault.

Sometimes the pump can be opened up and the pump can be patched up. I know old Bosch abs pumps they had aluminium bond wires that used to fatigue and pop off or break over time. Usually a 2nd hand replacement is your best bet of a long lasting fix though.

I've still got them 2 codes. Cleaned wheel sensors but lights remain.

I cant even clear them with bt cable, some times flashing Cobb deletes the error but it comes back.

Most likely to be a broken pump which gets gunked up somehow.

That's in my case of having a 2007 model.

Apparently there's a few different abs modules for n54s.

vtl: That's was my assumption as well. When for some reason the DSC is unable to apply brake pressure and fault comes on.

_ink: Thanks for the link, I'll give them a call to see if they can do a 1 to 1.

Brule: I've got a 2007 model as well.

Update: I've tried using my ABS on a quiet road and one of the wheels does lock up but doesn't raise a fault. I believe the ABS unit is truly faulty. Time for a replacement.

In my opinion you are better off buying a 2nd hand replacement pump.

Attached are pictures of my old ABS unit from my B5 A4. Mine failed and I cut it open in hopes of repairing it and soldering any broken connections. Upon disassembly I couldn't find anything broken on the connector bonds, so I assume it was broken on the microscopic bond wires to the ICs. All the broken connections you see in the pictures were just from me playing with the unit after discovering I couldn't rework it.

Looking at the design it looks almost identical to the BMW units. The OEM is Bosch for my old pump, ATE is the one that does BMW.

The electronics for the pump are sealed in a plastic welded casing to prevent water ingress. When they recondition these units they have to physically cut it open and resolder broken connections. Seen plenty pictures of ugly soldering and the unit doesn't look great with all the silicone they have to use to seal it up. Depends on the place that does it I guess.

They are usually quite pricey but if you are savvy on ebay you should be able to find another low milage unit for less than $250. Theres one on ebay for around $200 aud shipped from a E82 128i, according to realoem it uses the same pump as the 335i, but you should really compare the markings on your unit to the replacement unit to be 100% sure.

Seem to be isolated to early 335is (07s), from what I've read the issue comes from the abs pump itself, the bushings inside the pump failing and causing the pump to seize and throwing the above error codes.

Apparently they can be rebuilt, but not sure where in Australia to do it. My research always ends up in people in the states recommending a shop in the UK...

Also there's like 3 different versions of the control module for different year groups, so you need to be careful when buying a 2nd hand unit.

Im late 2007. Have this issue. Only way to clear it is to physically hit the abs unit a couple times with a screwdriver.
This clears the code for a day or 2.

Can confirm this works, although an ancient method, still has been 90% successful throughout the ages

Hello all. I have the very same codes. My car is an e93 - 2008 335i. N54 engine. i have been driving with these codes for 7 months. I have the carly app on my phone and the correct odbii cable. when I am able to clear the codes, they return as soon as the vehicle reaches 15 mpg. I took the car to BMW stealership for a definitive diagnoses... They want to replace the entire abs pump, motor, and electronic module. for 4k$$$$. I laughed and the service tech suggested I send it off to rebuild. I have been researching. ever since. This week I bought a used assembly of an 09 e93 and it is in transit now. I will document this job and post results here. for know...if you have this problem I suggest watching the linked youtube video. the author of the video seems to be very knowledgeable and active on his youtube channel. My car is the same year model as his and suffers from exactly the same error condition.

additional video of a another guy who tore apart the motor housing.

I had those 2 codes. Repaired with a 2 day turnaround from ebay seller (auto-remen- just search those error codes on ebay) for $350.

abs pump works great now.

I recall Peter @ advan had an abs issue on his 2008 335i (his car had about 30k kays on it?) so it isnt just isolated to 07's but there's a chance some 08's were manufactured with the same components?
