2016 PNW Track Day Thread

Thought I would start a thread for folks to share track days they are attending - so we know who's going to where, in case you want to stalk them.

Seriously, so far, I only have a few events planned:

April 10 - PCA @ The Ridge
June 4-5 - Cantrell @ ORP

Will probably do the May 20 BMW CCA day at Pacific, if I don't have to be in Barcelona.

Others???

I will likely be attending most, if not all, of the BMW CCA HPDE events this year and probably try to do at least one other club at The Ridge.

I'll be at both events that Larryn is signed up for, and presumably a few more :-)

All I have to say is be prepared to pass me while I am going backwards, not on purpose.

Yesterday was amazing at the Ridge! There was a white F82 and a Sakhir F80. Nice talking to you both, if you are on here.

This car is amazing on the track, I was pulling away (fairly hard) from cars a barely stuck with in my E92 M3. The 305 NT01s allow you to roll on the throttle approaching apex and floor it past apex. Damn impressive...

How can someone participate in this? I have never been to a track day (Except Nurburgring during my ED trip).

For of you, I would suggest attending a Car Control Clinic (CCC) with you local chapters of the BMW CCA. There's upcoming event for both chapters.

http://www.bmwpugetsound.com/
http://bmworegoncca.com/

Once you've done a very fun prerequisite CCC, you're signed off to attend the High Performance Drivers Education (HPDE or DE) events. Those are the track days. You'll be assigned an idiot, like myself, as an instructor who's stupid enough to volunteer to sit in the passenger seat with a newbie wanting to go really fast on a race track.

Seriously, get a couple events under your belt, and then you'll be eligible to run with the Porsche and Audi clubs, get signed off solo, and you are eligible for a few other clubs.. get to know people and you'll get invited to participate in even more events...

I'd suggest running stock, with the exception of high temp brake fluid to start. If you don't know how to bleed your brakes for replacing fluid, buy some Motul RBF 660, and come on over my place, and I'll show you how or change it with you... over a couple beers.

If any of you are around tomorrow with nothing to do and want to go to the Ridge Motorsports Park, I can take a passenger in the advanced group, so come look for my YMB M4 and say hi.. It will get you a passenger seat ride on the track.

Thanks so much for your advice! I was looking at the event today at the ridge but I had guest in town :/. I've always felt like getting involved was a bit overwhelming. Thanks again!

Thinking about taking out my new Fiesta ST this summer a few time. I am a BMW CCA member. Do they care if you bring a non-bmw?

Going to HPDE at PIR on Thursday. Hoping the weather cooperates and it stays dry. Probably do at least one more BMW CCA at PIR this year and maybe an event at the Ridge and Grass Valley.

Great time yesterday. Good seeing you ZPinhead !

Boy did we luck out on the weather.

Here's a lap and a half following an instructor in a 911 turbo.

Here's my setup:
  • GoPro4
  • Lavalier mic (taped on back deck)
  • GoPoint BT1 ODB2 data collector
  • Dual XGPS105A external GPS
  • Harry's Laptimer (on Iphone 6)
  • DashWare (gauge/map overlay)

DashWare is a free application. I built the gauges myself based on photos from my M4 dashboard.

ccc was fun. They let us on the track for 4 labs but then lost count at 3 and we went in. Didn't really go over 60 as we didn't wear helmets. We followed the lead car which was in I3 in my case. lolz.
