Strange sound from brake area, but different!
When the car rolls away from a dead stop, there's a squealing noise coming from the wheel. Once I tap on the brakes the sound goes away. Has anyone encountered something like this?
This is different than the typical squealing when the car comes to a stop. There's no sound coming to a stop, only when I pull away after a complete stop. Dealer didn't find anything. But some times it ruins my MPG down to 13mpg. |

Brake dust will make them squeal. How much pad is left? Might be the sensors starting to tell you it's time......

If your mpg is diving down that far it sounds like a brake pad is rubbing While driving.

Brake pad has enough depth. Note that it's when I have released the brakes and the car is rolling away from the stop that the squealing sound is heard.
I thought about the brake pad still rubbing as well. Dealer didn't find anything though. |

I had a rock stuck in the top of one of mine. Made a grinding noise when traveling slowly. Took some hunting to find it. If the BMW dealer didn't find it probably not the case.

Same thing happened me two weeks after buying my car, terrible loud squealing noise like a banshee was coming to get me.
Turned out it was just a small pebble lodged in the brakes, noticed by a passer-by too! Oddly enough we couldn't get it out and on the way to get it removed I had to go over some rather steep speed bumps, it must have dislodged after going over them because the noise vanished and the brakes are completely fine. |
